Why am I unable to think of songs?

Whenever I'm in the car or giving DD a bath and I want to sing her songs, my mind draws a total blank. I swear, I was a child once. I should remember many songs from said childhood. I don't.

Yesterday I ended up breaking into a rendition of "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys because it's all I could think of. Even then I trailed off because I forgot the lyrics.

  • Dude, I can never think of songs either. I also sing the Huggies potty dance from the commercial because for some reason, D loves it.

I do that a lot too.  You have time to check up on lyrics of songs you sang as a kid - at this age, she's not going to remember the words anyway!  If it makes you feel any better, I'm a music teacher, and I still draw blanks when it comes to songs to sing for J.

Yesterday it was bad. I actually sang the Barney "I love you" song.

And I've considered singing "This is the song that doesn't end" from Lamb Chop's Playalong just to cut myself a break.

  • I do a lot of songs I can do hand motions too (and DS can do along) like twinkle twinkle, the wheels on the bus and itsy bitsy spider.  (although duing bath time might not be the best place for these lol)

I used to sing DS to sleep every night, and ended up singing a lot of "Walking in Memphis" to him, haha.

I really hate that commercial. I don't know why.

  • I end up with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...all the time. I want to kill that song.
DS has acid relux and milk protein allergy, and had torticollis, used to EP, now we FF . April siggy 3-6 month

  • I do that too. I start singing a song, get 1/3 of the way in, and then realize I don't remember the rest of it. I should probably brush up on them before he gets old enough to be confused when I sing different lyrics everytime.
  • When that happens, I just wind up making songs about what I'm doing and add a thing or two about her.  I feel silly but it does the trick.

Same for me.  I always mute the TV or change the channel when it comes on.

LOL, I hate it too but D loves it so I'm stuck singing it, haha.

Christmastime was awesome because there were so many good songs to sing to W. I sometimes still revert to Christmas songs when I run out of other material.

I also like to make up my own songs, Buddy the Elf style. Such as, "You're eating carrots. They're all over your face. You have a carrot moustache. And you love them, you love them, you love them."

Yeah, I found myself disappointed that I "couldn't" sing Christmas songs anymore.

And I am a pro at making up random songs.

    My favorites:

"My name is Abby and I peed."
    "Somebody's stinky ... I think it's Abby!"

Maybe I should choose different topics.

Body functions are a common topic of songs around here.

My favorite - to the tune of Biz Markie's song Just a Friend: Oh bay-bee you, you got to go poo, but you say it's just a fart, you say it's just a fart.

  • I am pretty sucky at remembering words when I am singing along, but a pro when singing along to the song.  I use Pandora on my phone all the time to sing to DS.  Right now I have a nice mix of Disney tunes, Glee songs, Michael Buble and some random stuff thrown in.

Christmas carols are always my back-up when my mind goes blank. :-)

  • SO mixes them all up. He'll start with one, then unintentionally end up with another. If he catches me laughing at him he goes even farther. His most recent concoction? Twinkle twinkle little star. How I wonder what you are. ABCDEFG HIJKLMNOP Twinkle twinkle little star. Tip me over and pour me out.
  • I usually sing the ABC song when I go blank. I figure if I'm going to sing one too often, that's not a bad one.
