Cloth Diapering

How do I know when a pocket diaper is ready to use?

I have run tap water on this pocket diaper (bought off etsy), and it doesn't absorb at all - the water just pools and sits there. Does this mean it still needs more pre-washes before it's ready to use? I've already pre-washed five times. Is there something I'm missing? A quicker way to prep pockets??

DH is starting to lose his patience with trying out CDing when he sees the same diaper being washed over and over again by itself, hehe. I just want to be done prewashing!!

  • Pockets don't usually need to be prepped unless they have some bamboo or other natural fiber fabrics.  They usually need just one wash to clean the manufacturing grime off.  Don't judge it's absorbancy by putting water on it, judge it by whether or not it leaks on your baby.

  • You need compression to tell if it leaks--all MF does that if you just pour water on it. No prepping needed.

Let me get this straight: you're "trying out" CDing by buying one handmade pocket from etsy? More power to you, mama! I would not be that brave.

Fleece always runs off unless there's compression. that's the point of fleece. You aren't prepping it when you prewash, you're just getting any manufacturing/shipping junk off of it.

"Prepping" refers to the "weathering" you have to do of new, organic fiber inserts and prefolds.
