Parenting after a Loss

What time do you put LO down for the night?

I'm trying to figure out if we are keeping her up too late. Right now we start her bedtime routine at 7:30 and she is in bed by 8, but I have noticed she is getting cranked up earlier and I'm wondering if we should try to edge her bedtime a little earlier?

Also, if you've done this, does it affect how long LO sleeps? It was pushing it for me to get to sleep by 8:30, there's no way I can go any earlier (I wouldn't get to see my H since he doesn't get home until 7:30) and there is no WAY I can go without any adult conversation in a day.

Re: What time do you put LO down for the night?

  • DD will not go to bed before 11:30, usually midnight. Seriously 10:00-10:30 would be great, but it's out of my control.

  • DD used to go to bed (think 3 months) around 9:30. She started getting cranky to be around so we slowly backed it down

She now goes to bed at 8pm. She sometimes goes down at around 7pm but still sleeps the same amount of time (wakes around 5:30, gets a bottle goes to sleep until 8)

I would say move it up a little to combat the crankies. I don't know if it will change her sleeping length, it might or it might not.

  • My LOs going to bed around 7 now, but when my LO was your DDs age she was probably up until 10 or 10:30. She really wasn't interested in going to bed early when she was that young.
  • DS is early to bed, early to rise like his mom. He goes to bed around 6:30-7 and gets up 6-6:30. This has been his schedule since about 3 monthss.

  • You can try.  I wouldn't move it by more than 15 minutes every few days.

  • We sometimes start the routine 5:30 the earliest- she is down the LATEST 7:00.  She started upping her own bedtime when she was around 3 mts.

  • Around your LO's age, DD started getting more consistent. To this day, we rarely go past 7:30. The amount of time it takes her to fall asleep varies greatly, but she's usually in her crib from 7:00ish till 6:00 or 6:30.

  • Nowdays 6:30-7ish.  At your LO's age 10-10:30ish.  He gradually moved his bedtime earlier.  We just followed his cues.

  • I've been trying to put her down around 7:30.  It works sometimes.  Usually she'll wake up 30 minutes later and then I'll have to soothe her back to sleep or she'll stay up another hour and then I'll change and nurse again.  On good nights she's sleeping for real by 8:30 or 9:00.

  • This thread depresses me.

My DD goes to bed whenever the h3ll she darn well pleases and I've done everything to try to "fix" it.  Some nights it's between 8:30 and 9.  Last night she was awake until 11:30 (brief nap at 8, up to 11:30).  My other 2 kids went to bed by 7 by the time they were 6 months or so, so I'm hoping baby girl will organize her sleep sometime in the next 2-3 months and start going to bed earlier then.
