Does your LO get a "blister" on their lip from sucking?

I think its from the way he sucks nipple/bottle...

But his top lip always seems to get a "blister" that forms on it. Like chapped lips-- then it starts to fall off..

I'm assuming LO is sucking his top lip in when he bottle/breast feeds and thats whats forming it. I've tried flipping out his top lip while he's eating but thats hard to do!

Just curious if anybody elses LO has gotten this and if you found a trick to make them stop doing getting them!

  • yep both of my kids do..and it's totally normal..nothing i know of that you can do to get them to stop..my ds still has one from drinking from sippy cups :)

  • mine has one too! I was going to ask at her next ped visit...
  • My son had this issue. It never seemed to bother him, and putting lanolin on it helped.
  • DS got a red mark over his top lip when we were using Playtex Vent Aire bottles that would go away a little while after eating. For whatever the reason, it doesn't happen with the Tommee Tippee bottles we use now.

  • My dr just said it was sucking blisters and they were normal.  I figure her lips just have to get used to it and eventually they'll go away, or at least that's what I hope.  I put chap stick on her lips though, hoping it helps.

  • My LO was born with a sucking blister. It is still there and he's almost 10 weeks. It falls off every once in a while but comes back.

  • I've heard it's pretty common and it should go away after several weeks.  My 2nd DS had it but I dont' think he does anymore.  I don't remember my first son having it but maybe that's because he was bottle fed and not BF.

  • My LO had this.  It was a whitish blister in the middle of his upper lip.  It was puffy- like we get when wearing new shoes.  It went away sometime on its own around 8 weeks or so.
