3rd Trimester

Is anyone else using "cheapie" bottles?

I had Playtex and Avent with my DD, and honestly didn't love them. When we had no bottles clean, I grabbed a "cheapie" bottle that someone had used to help decorate my diaper cake. I loved it!

I plan to skip the nonsense and go right to the Evenflo bottle. Plain and simple plastic.

My H thinks I'm nuts. Because they're "cheap." But they worked great with DD1 so why bother getting something more expensive?

Am I alone here?

  • I don't see anything wrong with it.  If your baby tolerates them, why not!  We used "cheapies" for when I was on BM because they fit to my pump.

    1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.

  • We use the cheap Gerber version.  We used more expensive bottles with DS too, but these were the bottles he preferred.

  • The twins I nanny use the cheap Gerber bottles and we have never had a problem with them! I say start there and if your baby loves them, then why spend the money one more expensive ones?

  • We're trying these in glass. I figured we had nothing to lose by starting with these over the really spendy glass options.

  • I say start with the cheap ones and if you have a problem with gass, colic or reflux then try the other fancy ones.

  • All I've got is a Nuk that came free, and one Born Free that probably is "expensive", but was on sale.

I don't plan to buy any more than that unless it turns out we need them.

  • I'm glad I'm not alone. H is getting crazy with this baby stuff! lol. When we're looking at things he's totally hooked on price. He's convinced if it's more expensive it MUST be better.

While, I understand you get what you pay for. I don't think it's 100% always the case that less expensive is worse quality.

  • More expensive doesn't necessarily mean "better"!  DH tends to judge things based on price, but I always tell him that for a lot of things, it really comes down to personal preference, and I truly believe that.  If you like them better, and they work well for you, it would be a waste to get the more expensive ones.

  • I've heard of many, many babies that do just fine with the cheap ones. We all did when we were little right?

DS used Nuk and Dr. Brown's. Will likely do the same with this LO.

  • DD loved the Gerber bottles but with Madela nipples on them (better flow for a preemie). She was happy and the bottles were cheap. I had lots of very expensive bottles and she wasn't a fan- I say why go with the most expensive version when the cheapies work best?

  • I'm planning to try Evenflo glass bottles.  I plan to BF, and don't care to spend tons of money on bottles that will only be used for when I need to pump.  If LO doesn't like Evenflo, we'll move on to try another brand.

  • We tried tons of bottles due to gas issues with DS #1 and the ones that he liked the best were Playtex and Gerber. So we plan to just reuse those brands for DS #2.

  • We tried all kinds when we went from BFing to FFing...the cheapies worked best for us too. I will try what I have to this time around again.

Who cares what they are eating/drinking out of as long as they are FED!!
