Nap schedule at 1 y.o.?

I'm considering a toddler program starting in the fall and have to sign up for a specific time, either 9:30-11:30 or 11:30-1:30.  The problem I'm having is that I don't know what his nap schedule is going to be like then and whether he will have dropped his morning nap or not.

I think since he will definitely still have his afternoon nap I should go for the morning.  What do you think?  What was your LO's nap schedule like when he/she was a 1-year-old?  TIA!

Re: Nap schedule at 1 y.o.?

  • Do 9:30-11:30!

We have this time right now and typically Emily falls asleep on the way home.  When we are home her naps are more like 1 or 2 pm but she gets worn out in toddler class. Some kids leave earlier than 11:30 if they are tired and fussy and it is no big deal.

We have friends in a different group that is 11:30-1:30 and they say it sucks right now, the kids fall asleep on the way or are tired through the class.  They are actually dropping for the spring quarter because the timing is so bad. The other reason I didn't want an 11:30 class is messing with lunch time, I'm very sensitive to eating regulary and wouldn't want to wait till 1:30 or 2 to eat.

    Do 9:30-11:30!

Definitely.  Lila moved to one nap around 13 mo (I think?) and we eventually settled into a down-at-noon routine.

  • Do the morning.  Naptime around here (and how it is at daycare) is after lunch.

  • I would do morning.  Laurel transitioned to one nap pretty early and naps from 11:30/12-2pm ish.

  • I agree with the girls, do the mornings.

W does one nap most days, and goes down at noonish, depending on if we have to pickup M from school.

  • I would definitely do the morning toddler group too. That way you will have a very tired toddler by lunchtme and will probably get lots of Mama rest time in too :)

  • I would do the 9:30 class. That still gives him time to either nap before it, depending on how early you get up, or after, but it won't mess up his afternoon nap as much.

  • Thanks for confirming what I was thinking, ladies!
  • I agree morning is probably best.  Hudson still naps 2 x a day if I am home with him, but on day care days and days when DH or my mom is here he is usually napping once per day.  I STILL have trouble trying to plan anything at a specific time because his naps are so unpredicitable .. I'm hoping he transitions to 1 nap a day soon to make things easier to go out and do! :)
  • Another vote for morning! Max was battling two naps before 12 months, after his birthday I just gave up and transitioned to one, and gradually moved it back until it was in the afternoon.

  • DD's naps have been totally inconsistent these last few weeks and some days nonexistent.  Sometimes she falls asleep while I am running at 9:30, or takes a nap at 10 or 11, other times it's 2.  If she doesn't get a morning nap, she usually gets tired by 2:30 and will go to bed at 7.  Yesterday she had 2 naps and didn't go down till after 8.  Daylight savings didn't help, but I wish she had a semi-predictable schedule again.  That said  for what you are asking the morning for sure.
  • Cooper still does two naps but the morning works fine. You can get a Carnap in the car on the way or just stretch it to make the class work. So another morning vote.

  • Uh oh... I feel like a sadly uneducated mommy.  What is a toddler "class"?  And how can I find one?  It sounds like a great way for Isaac to socialize.
