North Carolina Babies

august babies... clothing ?

ds was born mid september and also gained weight really slow due to reflux, so he didn't fit 0-3 until he as almost 3 months old! LOL   so i'm having a hard time trying to figure out what size stuff i should buy to get me started.....

should i stick w/the 0-3 size even though we'll be cding, so she will have a major fluff issue down below?  or should i focus more on the 3-6 size?

also, ds wore primarily onsies for a long time, i don't remember when exactly we did the footed onsies..  should i go for more of those? more onsies?  we live at the beach so it will stay warm here through october at least unless the weather goes all wonky.

god i feel like such a newb at this hahaha!! i shouldn't feel this clueless but apparently finding out its a girl makes me question a lot of stuff!    i think i need to just get into ds's stuff and see what the heck he wore bc my memory is just not helping me out here lol.

  • Yeah regardless of whether this is a girl or boy, I'm still not real sure what we're going to need in the beginning because it being Sept. and in the middle of switching seasons soon after...hmmm....I've been pondering the same thing...
  • Loading the player...
  • J was born July 28th, so I'm going to jump in...

We did mostly onesies and didn't go to footed sleepers until it turned cool (which as you know in NC can be a LONG time away from August). If it does turn a bit cooler, you can always buy cotton pants to put over the onesies (super cheap at Wal-Mart).

As far as size, it's probably a toss-up but I think I'd focus on 0-3 months since your 1st was small. I don't think the CD should affect that too much.

    Have fun buying PINK!!!

  • DS was an August baby and he was in newborn for about 2-3 weeks and in 0-3 until early November if I can recall correctly (feels like it was years ago already!!).  We did footed sleepers after we weaned the swaddle at night, so around 3 months we did the light cotton ones you can buy at Target to start and then worked our way up to fleece sleepers. Starting at 3 months we did pants a lot and hoodies (or if it was really cold, his coat).  We're still in hoodies, pants, onesie or shirt and socks (no shoes yet).  Today he's just in a onesie in the house and then I overdressed him for a walk around the lake (onesie, pants, socks and hoodie) but he did fine.

Depending on brand DS was in 3-6 from Nov-Jan and now we're in 6-12 or just 9 months.

  • How fun to look for girls clothes !  Alex was born in early Sept, so it was still very hot here.  Before his stump fell off, we put him in the kimono shirts and cotton pants.  After his cord fell off, we put him in short sleeve onsies and comfy cotton pants during the day.  At night, he was swaddled for the first two months.  Under his swaddle, he slept in onsies at first, and then long sleeved dresses.  We switched to footed fleece jammies around 2.5 months when it was a little colder (November) and he no longer stayed in a swaddle.

As for sizes, Al was 8lbs 7oz at birth.  He fit some newborn clothes for about 2 weeks.  With your first baby being small, you may want to get more newborn sized clothes, but (for what we used) not a lot of 'outfit' type clothes.

  • thanks ladies!  i went shopping yesterday... and holy sticker shock!!!  we got so much stuff between showers and just friends giving us their old boy clothes, that we really haven't had to buy much clothes for ds until recently since he's outgrown everything we were given.... and yeah... i forgot how expensive baby clothes are!!

i'll be hitting up the consignment sales and yardsales for sure to stock up on stuff... retail price is just crazy for this stuff!

  • I have to say, I just went shopping on Tuesday at Baby Gap, Gymboree, etc. and the prices seemed ridiculous to me.  Even stuff ON SALE/CLEARANCE!!  A shirt was like $16!!  I don't remember stuff being that expensive?  Maybe it's because I'm buying bigger sizes?  It's like they suck you in and make the 0-3 and 3-6 month close affordable and then your stuck paying $$$ when they get older because you end up loving their stuff. :(
