For those of you who already have 2 and gave a gift from the baby, what did you get your toddler? My DD will be 21 months when DS is due. I remember I was given a dollhouse when my brother came but I was also 4 years old at the time. Thanks!
We didn't buy something "from the baby" because I knew he wouldn't understand. He already didn't understand when his gifts came from someone, so it wouldn't have mattered who gave it or from where it came. So I just bought him a special new toy and gave it to him when we got to the hospital (he was in the waiting room with family that day). He was excited about it, but even now he would never be able to say that he got it the day Lena was born...or even that I was the one who gave it to him. He still got the special new toy because I knew there would be a lot of attention elsewhere that week and he could still feel like he had something fun just for him.
We didn't give DD1 a gift from the baby either. I didn't buy her a new toy either. I packed a few toys in my bag to have in the room when she came to visit so DH wouldn't have to transport them, and that was it.
Re: Gift from baby to oldest child
We got DD a waldorf doll so that she can play Mommy while I am feeding or diapering her lil bro/sis. (It's from RainbowDolls on Etsy)
