3rd Trimester

Can you go from 0 contrax, to full labor in a day?

I feel like I should know this, but I was induced with DS so I'm not sure.

Can you literally feel NOTHING in the morning, and end up with a baby that night.  Wouldn't there be at least some indication of early labor for a day (or a few) before hand, or not necessarily?

  • yeah, that can definitely happen. 2 women I worked with had that happen. One even had her first baby in the car on the way to the hospital  after her water broke and having 2 contractions.

  • Yep.  My first sign of labor was my water breaking, and B was born a few hours later.  There was no indication of early labor before that, not even my MP.
  • Is it sad that I hope so? ha-ha I was induced with mine too and would love to just "be in labor". DH asks me at every cringe of pain...are you ok? Are you in labor? UHM well I dont know. Sounds pretty stoopid coming from a 3rd time mom!
  • That was how my labor was with O...
  • thats how I just got my bundle of joy :)
  • With Kaitlyn I was dealing with a lot of BH's all day.  Apparently I was in the beginning stages of labor but didn't see them as anything more than a bunch of annoying BH's.  I figured I would just put my feet up and drink a couple gallons of water.  By Midnight they suddenly got painful and the back labor started up.  Kaitlyn was born 11.5 hours later.

It wasn't necessarily a 'sudden thing', I just failed to ID the BH's as early signs of labor.

  • Phew, thank you all!  That's exactly what I wanted to hear Big Smile - except for the baby delivered in a car post of course (yikes!!).

I was never this anxious with DS, but this time around I am just grasping for any hope that my "normal" feeling doesn't really mean a thing, and this baby can come at any time!

Wife, I'm pretty sure that O's birth and B's birth were exactly the same.  They were both ten days early with quick but awful back labor.  I'm watching you closely with #2--if we ever have another I'm just going to assume my experience will mirror yours again!

  • Yes. I had no signs of labor (0 dilated/effaced, I didn't drop, etc).  All of a sudden I started having contractions and 12 hrs later delivered DS.

As much as I hated the back labor, I would much prefer it that way than this right now.  I hate the false labor, the cramping, and the fear of it all happening even faster (with a 45 min drive to the hospital).  Although, I guess I really fear it's not going to happen at all and I'll have to be induced.

  • YES! Happened to me. I was one of those ladies who thought I'd be pregnant forever because I pretty much didn't even have BH contractions or anything.

Started having contractions at 5:30 a.m, and had her 1:57 the next morning.
