I voted 'Other'. I have no freakin' clue what I want for a birthing plan. I want a stork that actually delivers babies and to not try and push a watermelon through a keyhole!
Honestly, I don't have a strong feeling (against or for) when it comes to drugs during labor and giving birth. I feel like, since I've never done it before, I won't know what I want until I'm actually in the midst of it.
I would like to avoid a c-section if possible, but obviously if I were in a situation where a c-section was in the best interests of the baby, I'd do it.

I want med-free at all reasonable costs. I am so sad there are no birthing centers around here and midwives do not work at our hospitals. MH says absolutely no to home birth. I get anxiety thinking about finding a doctor that will let me go low intervention. (My current doctor doesn't do babies anymore.)
i had a c section with the first...would really love a vbac but my doc is anti-vbac..
Have you considered getting a second opinion? Some doctors don't support VBAC even though there is a ton of evidence showing it is safe for most women, and that the majority of women who attempt VBAC will be successful. Finding a doctor who understands the evidence and safety of VBAC can make a world of difference. Have you been over to the bump VBAC board at all?

I'm saying no drugs now and going on the theory that women are 'made' to have babies; we can get through it sans meds. I just hope I'm not eating my words in the delivery room, begging for an epi. I guess it really comes down to how things are going, which is impossible to know now!
Things didn't go as planned for me at all (I had a slow AF leak and had to be induced), but I have no complaints!
Your birth wish list pretty much sums up what I want. I am also a control freak.
I didn't get much of what I put in there, though. All of the newborn care stuff happened, but not much of my labor was what I had wanted. That said, I really have no complaints. I had no complications and we were both safe and healthy!
With my first I wanted med-free very strongly, DH & I even took a natural birthing class. Then, I was 2 weeks over due and had to be induced. Getting to 14 days past the due date is not usually allowed, so my doctor was awesome at trying to accomodate my wishes. My induction was not successful. I had an epi that didn't work. And, ended up with a spinal and a c-section. Pretty much all the opposite of what I hoped for - other than my gorgeous baby girl, of course.
This time, I will discuss a vbac with my doctor. But since we are hoping to have 2U2, I am pretty sure they will want to do a repeat section. Honestly, surgery completely terrifies me and I still am trying to block out my last one! I am one of those people who sees a picture of a needle and practically faints. Just writing this out has my fingers feeling numb!

I'm realistic enough to know things may not go as I hope they do--and I would never compromise my health and certainly not my phantom baby's health just to keep intervention-free. But if I get my "dream-birth" it would look just like what you wished for.

and it turned me against epi's completely. It says an epidural kills the hormone oxytocin which enables a mother to love her baby. This is amazing to me. I may create a thread with this link to it to get others' opinions.Do you believe this? Has anyone given birth with no drugs and found it to not be ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE?
i voted No Drugs, but it will all depend on what happens in the delivery room. i had an epidural with DD, but i'd like to try without this time around. i may not make it, but i'd like to try.
My plan is to have a healthy baby and be as comfortable as possible so C-section (if medically necessary) and very good pain control - epidural if needed.

I used to think natural but lately I've been thinking drugs b/c I'm a tiny petite person and come from a family with very large heads!!!! That scares the crap out of me. It might be a game day decision.

Maybe I'm just a horrible person but vaginal birth is really out of the question for me. Unless by some miracle I go into labor and don't make it to the hospital before getting 5cm dilated, I'm having a c-section...insurance on board or not. I suffer from severe headaches post a head injury and there's no way I'm taking a chance with having to deal with contractions and bearing down to push! Since I'm trying to conceive #1, I'm sure I'd get to the hospital before I'm even close to 5cm, but if I HAD to do it vaginally, I'd do it with meds all the way. I get the reason behind so many people wanting to go med-free or have a "natural birthing plan" but I actually have done a lot of research and they say the more pain the mother is in, the more stress the baby is in, and that while c-sections and epidurals are unnatural it is much easier on the baby. However, people did it for centuries and we're all still here, so that might just be subjective research based on people who feel bad for overmedicating during birth and just want to make themselves feel better. Regardlessly, I am c-section all the way , xoxo... p.s. feel free to hate haha.

Wow...so that's why I didn't love my son! Come on - that's ridiculous! I had an epidural and I don't think that any mother loves her baby more than I do. As far as an epidural's effect on oxytocin, that article refers to research done on sheep - not humans (and on top of that the article doesn't even quote from the study or give the name of this study).
With DD I went natural until right before pushing (not by choice, my nurse was a bag and wouldn't let me have anything), then I was given a gas mask for all of 5 minutes! Next time I will definitely be requesting lots and lots of drugs! I will be delivering in the same hospital so I hope that I don't get the same nurse as with DD.
I would have ripped her throat right out. I voted for drugs but honestly if I had the choice I would probably go with a c-section. I have an extremely low threshold for pain and the whole idea honestly completely stresses me out.

I had an emergency c-section with my son, but before that happened I went 17.5 hours med free. Had it not been for medical reasons I would have done it all natural.

THIS. LOL
I have had 2 med free births. DS1 was induced (medical reasons) and I went into labor spontaneously with DS2. I preferred my birth experience with DS2 as I had a midwife and was much more mobile but I have no complaints about either experience. The adrenaline rush is incredible. I have nothing but positive things to say.

Your head is not really involved in the pushing part. Your lower body kind of takes over. If your head is involved then you are pushing wrong. My best advice is to practice pushing a tampon out (to give you the feel for correct pushing). And you will see that it shouldn't involve your face/head at all. GL with whatever you decide.

I largely had a natural birth, although I used the gas during pushing. I've heard gas isn't very common in the states.
Anyway, I didn't find it horrible. If anything I enjoyed it. I liken it to the pain and exhaustion you would feel climbing a mountain. yes it's hard work, but you enjoy it none the less (or at least I assume mountain climbing types do)
I had a great experience, I laboured in the shower and the tub, and assuming no medical issues, plan to follow the same sort of plan next time.
I voted c-section because I have to have a repeat one. With DD I went completely med free and dilated to a 9 and then waited for 6 hrs with no progress past that after I had already been in labor for 13 hrs. My Dr. then realized she was not dropping into the birth canal so they wanted to start me on pitocin and gave me an epidural to see if my body just needed a little help. 2-3 hrs after the meds, still no progress so I had to have an emergency c-section. DD was turned sunny side up and her shoulders were stuck. It wasn't what I wanted but it was the right thing to do to get her out safely.
