Baby went breech at 38 weeks - help ???

I'm so sad. Last Tue. at my weekly check baby was head down, super low and good to go. Then at my appt. today, it has flipped and is now breech. I'm a FTM, of course wanting natural, vaginal delivery, not a c-section. My OB was kind and went over the options - 1) baby flips itself (HOPEFULLY), 2) version or 3) c-section - he does not want to perform version on me because I have an anterior placenta, this is my first baby and the baby is sitting really low in my pelvis, he said it's very risky.

 SadSadSad

Anyone have stories, wisdom, thoughts, stretches, positions, etc. that can encourage my LO to flip on their own before next week? Otherwise it looks like a c-section 3/24...

  • Google spinning babies...I've seen several people about about that technique. I think its positions that encourage baby to flip on its own. Good luck!

  • i tried the info on spinning babies (my baby was breech at 37.5 weeks) and it didn't work for me.  i also had an external version which also didn't work (at the time of the version they estimated her at 7lbs, 6oz).  i don't want to sound pessimistic - i think a lot of it had to do with the size of her - she wound up being 8lbs, 13.2oz - and i am very small (5'0").  i was also scheduled for the C section after my 39th week but went into labor at 38w5d.

i've advised on here before that if you REALLY want the vag delivery, try the version.  it is painful though and there are some risks - and it also is only effective 50-60% of the time.  i didn't want a C-section either but now knowing her size/weight, both myself and my dr. agreed that i probably would have ended up with a c-section anyway and i'm glad that she didn't have to go through any trauma trying [possibly unsuccessfully] to get through the birth canal.

good luck with whatever you decide!

  • Find a chiropractor who is certified in the Webster technique. I do not know how long it takes but I aee one every week and without her I would not have survived pregnancy! The Webster technique is speciffically to flip breech babies. Good luck!

  • My first was breech, and I found out at my 38 week appt. that this baby flipped around is now breech. With my first I tried a version and it didn't work. Ended up with a c-section. I VBACed with my second. On Friday they are goint to try to flip her and induce labor. If she shows any signs of distress, I will have a c-section right then.

If my Dr. was against the version, I would probably decline and just go for the c-section. I highly value the doctor's opinions in these situations. Good luck with whatever you choose.
