I use 1/4 c of regular bleach. And I ran 2 more cycles no detergent or bleach afterward to get rid of the smell. I hate the yeasties.
In my defense-
You can make pizza with water up to 120 deg, so what temp do they really die? I don't believe hot water is the answer, though it probably helps.
I cannot get GSE locally, and what I have is precious.
One round of bleach has never harmed my diapers. I know it's nasty, but it's effective. And I'd rather know it works than try GSE again (FTR- I didn't use 50 drops) and then have the rash come back after it was cleared up.
I haven't seen the sun shine since I don't know when. (only sort of true- it peaked out for a few minutes yesterday)
I gave up on PUL last summer after 4 bouts with yeast rash. Haven't had yeast problems since.
Re: Quick ? - how to treat yeast in diapers?
1/4c bleach or 50 drops Grapefruit Seed Extract, crank the hot water heater, and sun.
Must be something going around - I had hoped to never have to deal with it too and yet my dipes are sunning after treatment today.
This is what I did.
- cold wash with Tea Tree Oil (3-4 drops in a FL, 4-6 drops in a TL. add to detergent compartment for FL)
- hot wash with an oxygen cleaner (Vaska OxygenBleach
or Bio Kleen Oxygen Bleach Plus
are options) - lay out in FULL sun (if you live in the south this isn?t a problem) or dry on HIGH heat.
