Hi Ladies..... I am fairly new to this site and this is my first pregnancy. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant with an extremely short cervix, 0.6cm. I have been on bedrest since 28 weeks pregnant. I will be going back to the Doctor in 4 days to get another cervical measurement.
My question is: I know that I am having lots of braxton hicks. Fortunately, I am not having 4-5 in one hour, they are just very sporadic, but I feel that today they seem to be more frequent....again, not 4-5 in one hour though. Im almost positive this is normal, but it is making me wonder if labor is not far behind....??
Also, can some else describe what their braxton hicks feel like..?? My abdomen gets extremly hard and tight and it feel like a ball forms......normal?

Re: Braxton Hicks
TTC #2 since 1/14
Miscarriage d/t blighted ovum 8/14
that's what mine feel like too. i have 4-5 an hour if i'm not sitting or standing. i'm taking procardia to help decrease them in strength and frequency. i had ds at 29 weeks after a bunch of braxton hicks (a lot in number, but not consistent).
i'm a big fan of calling your doc whenever you are unsure of anything.
i had them off and on all day. i had gone for a long walk (3 miles- like i had been doing every day since i had been having a totally normal pregnancy) and when i came home i was having them. i had some normally, so i wasn't worried. i drank some water and laid around on the sofa all day watching movies and i kept having them. not too many though, and they were never getting closer together or consistent, so i wasn't worried. they went away around dinner time, but then were replaced by period like cramps. i went to the bathroom and notice bleeding and had dh call the midwife who sent us straight to the hospital. i was completely dilated when i got there (10 min away) and my water broke on it's own about 15 min after i was there. someone actually had to hold ds in while they got surgery prepped so that i didn't deliver him (totally tmi, i know)
ds was 3lbs. at birth (29w4d) and 15 inches long. the docs thought that was a good size. i had him by emergency c-section since he was breech and they thought his skull and bones would not be strong enough to deliver vaginally. he was in the nicu for just over two months. he was very healthy and grew great and never had any problems there other than his oxygen level in his blood. i pumped for three weeks until we could start nursing (he got bm through a tube until that point) and he nursed like a champ. of course, since i couldn't be there around the clock he would get bottles when i wasn't- and he had a hard time learning to breathe and swallow while having a bottle. that kept us there longer i think because he had to go so many days without a desat.
once we got home we never had any problems and he is a totally brillant, beautiful, and healthy 2.5 year old now. we are very lucky. if you have any other questions or anything feel free to send me a pm.
I rarely have them, but when they do happen, the bottom of my belly gets really hard and tight. Lasts for maybe 30 seconds and then it's over. At first I thought it was baby pushing down, but since he doesn't push like that anywhere else, I figure they are just the BH.
