Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How often do you take LO to the pediatrician and/or call/email them?

Maybe it's because I'm a new mom and don't know what to expect, but I feel like I'm emailing them once every 2 weeks for something and I feel like I'm taking him in at least once a month for one thing or another in addition to his well visits.

Are you a frequent flyer/caller?

  • I only called when he had blood in his dipe.  That was like 2.5 months ago.  Emailing them? No...

We've been for his well checks and once when he had some blood in his spit up.  Other than that we've been lucky that J is a healthy guy.

Oh, I feel like I need a frequent visitor discount card.  With M's reflux and milk allergy giving us so many problems, we are at the pedi office about once every other week and I find myself calling atleast once a week.  Now that both of those are under a little bit of better control I am not there as often, but yeah...the entire staff knows me.  It's sad.

  • I called/brought her in like once a week before we figured out she had a soy/milk allergy. The constant projectile vomiting had me freaking out.

That is a great shot of J!!  Too cute!

To OP: If I have a general question or concern I check out the boards here first, usualy someone has already asked.  I've only called the doc twice, once for a cold, and once about a rash.

  • The office I go to has emails for all the doctors and they encourage you to ask questions via email and since that's so easy and we get such a quick response, I feel so inclined to use it.  I feel like I'm abusing their email option....

If they encourage it, I wouldn't feel bad about it at all as long as they were reasonable questions.

  • I'm a second time mom this time around, but I never have been one to call/take kids to the pedi too often. With DS, I only called when it was time for his reflux meds to be adjusted, and once since he caught a cold from me and was only 4 weeks old in the first year of his life.

I think I have a pretty good idea of what is normal/abnormal. What to expect in the first year is really helpful for that.

  • I've only seen her for our regular appointments.  Never had to call for anything else, though I wouldn't hesitate to do so if I had a question or concern.  Usually I can find answers here or via google.

  • I probably would take him in  a lot expect for the fact that DH is a paramedic and SIL is a NICU nurse. So they answer all of my questions before hand. Most of my concerns have been new mommy things that I just did not know were normal.

  • He's been in once other than his well child visits, and I've called them twice.

  • I have never called. I honestly haven't had reason to. I tend to do so much research and being on here so early got me ready for the first stuffy nose, what vomit really is, how much poop is normal. So I've been able to just brush off a lot of stuff that most first time moms would call for. I'm just really lax like that anyhow.

  • I feel like I have been too with his colds.... and I keep getting the same nurse who must think I am off my rocker by now.

  • I've called twice aside from well-child visits. They saw us for his cold and talked me through the eczema treatments.
  • I went in once when she was running a slight fever right before a weekend trip, but beyond that, I really haven't had to call or go in much. I have called and double-checked about a few OTC meds for me because of the BFing.

I do think though that if I didn't have you bumpies I would have called a lot more  :-)
