I borrowed the book from a friend and did it with DS when he was 11 months. DD is nearly 7 months old but waking 3-4 times a night still (every 2 hours!). I really don't think she needs the feed, or at least, if she got through the night she's quite capable of making up for it in the morning. I was hoping to get her to go from 10pm-6am or something like that within a week.
But I don't have the book anymore ![]()
Can you give me step by step?
Re: Can someone give me a summary of Weissbluth's CIO?
He has 2 versions -
Extinction - Close the door at bedtime, don't go back in until morning. Lots of crying for a few nights and then you have a baby who sleeps all night. Don't do it if baby is sick, teething, etc.
Gradual - Go back in after 5 minutes of crying, shh and soothe without picking baby up, stay no longer than a few minutes, leave. Go back in after 10 minutes of crying, then 15, etc.
If you aren't comfortable with these and want to stick it to DH a little, have him go into her for her first waking of the night and soothe her, rock her, whatever, til she is settled, then you go in and feed her at the next feeding, then he'd go in... Once she's not waking for the earliest time, send him in for the one you were feeding her for. Might take a little longer, but it's less drastic, and it worked well in our house. No matter what you choose, Dh should maybe go in bc my kids were all just more pissed when I went in smelling like milk and not giving up the boob.
I just want to say that it isn't necessarily a lot of crying for a few nights. With my dd, who was a HORRIBLE sleeper (up 6x/night at 4 months) it was moderate crying for 1 night and that was it. She's been a phenomenal sleeper ever since.
