Hi all-
I had my heart set on muu furniture for the nursery, but when i went to the store to order it the salesperson offered a really great deal for the Munire Cirque collection. I don't much about it, but from looking it up I see baby bargains gave it an A. However, I also see that they had a recall for lead paint a few years ago that's got me freaked out. Finally I'm wondering if anyone has/has seen this set in person. Is the crib rail made out of solid wood or mdf?
Basically, any feedback on this set in particular or Munire in general would be appreciated. The price is really MUCH lower for this vs. the muu!!
TIA
Re: Munire Cirque Nursery Furniture
Munire is one of the best companies when it comes to baby furniture... The majestic is one of my favs. They've had a couple recalls from what I know of, just like every company has had... If you look hard enough you'll find that just about every company out there has had a recall or two.
Munire's cribs do contain some particle board (MDF) and are also made with birches and mahogany.
The only companies I know of that make cribs with 100% solid wood are Romina and Kidz Decoeur. These cribs cost anywhere from $800 - $1100.
I have Munire for DS (I think it is lexington in espresso) and I love it. I know it is mostly wood, dovetail drawers, etc, and I know that use small amounts of MDF, but I can't tell you where. I have the crib (with toddler and FS bed conversion rails), double dresser, tall dresser and nightstand-we paid $2600. The only other brand I considered was Romina, but I wasn't in love with the styles, and it was much more expensive-we would have paid $4000+ for the same stuff.
Munire should last a lifetime, but knowing how kids can be, I'll be happy getting 10-15 years out of it (cosmetics only-I know the stuff is sturdy enough, its just a question of what he does to the outside when I'm not looking). I'll spend more for mostly wood(munire) knowing that the kids could destroy it, but I didn't dare get the romina all wood, knowing that in 30 seconds when DS gets older it could be covered in stickers or something.
Also, get the crib wrap covers for your crib to protect it from teeth marks. I think the brand is trendlab.
BRU has them in black, which would look really nice with Cirque, IMO. I have them on my registry, (I think we'll need 2 of the longer ones since the back is the same height as the front and most likely equal probability of being nibbled on).
