Trying to Get Pregnant

Out of TTC for 2+ months

I know I'm still fairly new here, but you ladies are pretty much the only ones who know that DH are TTC.  I had my annual exam earlier this week, and my doctor told me that I need to stop TTC for at least 2 months, until I've had my next colonoscopy, and it comes back perfectly healthy.  Background:  I'm 27, my mom was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer at 28 and died 6 months later.  I had my first colonoscopy at 22, and it came back perfectly normal, so the doctor said come back in 5 years.

My 'little' sister, who is 22, had her first colonoscopy about 3-4 weeks ago, and they did end up finding a polyp (which they removed and sent for testing).  We don't have the results yet.  She has the two most adorable little boys already, and she's pretty sure she's 'done' having kids.

As irrational as it is, my biggest fear was always that I would get cancer before we could have kids, and that somehow, I would end up unable to conceive as a result. (Please, before you flame me, I *do* realize that just because my mom had cancer doesn't mean I will get cancer, or that it would leave me infertile.)  I just feel like I already missed my 'window' because I waited to have kids.

Sorry for the vent, but I needed to tell someone!  This is exactly why our friends and family don't know we were TTC...

  • Sorry to hear about your mom. I guess its better to wait and know then have complications. My question is why wait 2 months can you get one scheduled sooner? Good luck I hope the best for you and your sister.

bingham -- they scheduled my 'consult' appointment for April 6, to make sure we didn't get a BFP this cycle (we didn't).  Then I'm flying to see my sister from 3/30-4/5, so the earliest/best time was the 6th.  From there, I don't know how long until the actual colonoscopy; it might depend on availability there, too.

  • Sending thoughts and prayers for you and your sister. I am sure it must be difficult to go through this right now..
  • Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Our TTC is on hold too due to H's cancer Tx so I can kind of understand where you're coming from.  I hope everything works out for the best! ::hugs::

  • I feel for you. My first husband passed away of colon cancer at 27 (we found out he had Lynch Syndrome, as does about half of his family we now know). I hope everything turns out well for you. It is very treatable when caught early.
