Car Seat for Honda Civic

Or any other car with a very small back seat!

We got the Graco SnugRide 32 infant car seat for DD and it was waaaay too big for our car!  Looking at full sized car seats now and a little bit concerned about finding something that will fit.  Any recommendations?  TIA!

Re: Car Seat for Honda Civic

  • You will find that most convertibles have a smaller base than an infant seat, so they don't take up as much room... generally.

You can check out carseatblog.org for recommendations and reviews.

  • The new Britax Marathon 70.

It's pricey, but it was the only thing I could put in the car and a- not slam the passenger in to the glove box, and b - still see out the rear passenger window when rear-facing.  I drive a VW Jetta (formerly a VW Cabrio, aka the world's smallest car!)  and I took about 6 seats out at BRU to see how they fit in my car.  This seat was the ONLY one that met my needs.  Also, I can have the passenger seat in it's usual position, I just removed the head rest, and it is far back enough that my husband (5'10) can sit comfortably in the passenger seat and not even touch the dash.

We had the Evenflo Triumph before that, and that thing is a BEAST!!  It's in my husband's car FFing now, but since my car is the primary and we wanted to keep him ERF, this seat is awesome.  And the 20% off coupons can be used on it to cut some of the cost.

The other pros - Latch system is on a steel bar on the outside, and each side is independent of each other.  No re-threading or twisting to go from FFing to RFing.  40 pounds RFing limit, and the seat FFing goes to 70 pounds.  There is no re-threading the harness either, it's a one hand adjustment.  The Latch also has a RFing upper tether if your car permits it.  It's one of the only seats on the market that does.   My only complaint is that it is a ROYAL PITA to adjust the recline.  But seeing as you only have to do that once in a blue moon, I'll deal with it just fine.

  • i have a combi zeus 360 which is also a pricey convertible seat. i don't have a small car myself, but the reviews i read with people who do have small cars liked it.

the seat swivels to make it easier to get lo in and out of the car seat and i think that is the main benefit people with small cars liked. it is tall though so it does kind of get in the way when you're looking behind.

  • Ditto the Britax- Marathon or Roundabout should definitely do the trick.  We have original smaller Roundabout and that one fit perfectly in our old Nissan Sentra.  I hate that they quit making that size- it was so perfect for little cars!  We also have a Marathon and it fit in there too- altho RF was tough on the passenger... not impossible tho.

  • We have a First Years True Fit in my husband's Honda Fit. We're getting ready to put the headrest on it and decrease the incline, so I think it should still work fine.

I have an 03 Civic 4-door.  We just got the Chicco Keyfit 30 and it fits great!  We can put the carseat in the middle and have both front seats all the way back with out them even touching the seat.

We tried the Britax Chaperone and it was way too big.
