Easter question

For those who are teaching their children about Jesus

We were talking about Easter yesterday and N is excited about eggs and baskets. I brought up Jesus, but 2.5 years seems a little young for the crucifixion and rising from the dead.  So I just left it as Easter baskets are fun but Easter is really about Jesus. Maybe "all the things Jesus does for us" is enough at this age.

What do you tell your littles about Easter?

Re: Easter question

  • That reminds me of something that Evie said the other day.  She came home from (Christian) preschool and told me, "Jesus is coming back!"  I was kind of surprised, becuase she's a little young IMO to learn about death/resurrection and the second coming, but I told her that she was right.  Then she says, "And tractors are coming back!  And cupcakes!"  So obviously it was over her head.

We do a devotional every night before bed.  We use The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers from the Little Blessings line.  I pray with her and I've been trying to get her to pray on her own, but she doesn't really understand the concept yet.  But if you were to ask Evie what Easter was about, she would probably say bunnies.

  • I think at that age, we did treats for Easter and told Tillman the holiday is to celebrate what Jesus did for us and we serve a living God...something like that.  Now he's older and he gets it.  (I mean who can really *get* what Jesus did for us and that he rose from the dead, but you know what I mean.)  We still hide eggs and do treats, though, but no bunny gets any credit from us.  :)

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
  • We haven't talked about Easter much yet. I did buy her the new Veggie Tales Easter movie and we'll watch it with her and maybe try to explain it from there. We'll talk to her about that Jesus died for our sins and that's why we celebrate Easter. I think she's a little too young to understand being crucified and the resurrection.

  • Last year she had no clue what any of it was about except that she had an egg hunt and got a present at church but this year we will talk about Easter as a way to celebrate what Jesus has done for us. We probably won't go into the total details. And she will probably only remember that she had an egg hunt too.
  • We've got a while before we get to that stage ;-) And I am still trying to figure out what to teach R about Easter... The Veggie Tales movie sounds interesting...

  • Easter at this age for us is about bunnies, baskets and eggs.  Cruz does not grasp really what death is at this point and its a little deep for a 3 year old.  We just tell him its a special day to celebrate Jesus.
