PEPS?

Have any of you participated in PEPS (program for early parenting support)? What did you think of it? Is it more of a parenting class type thing or a place to meet people?

I am transitioning from being a teacher to a SAHM, and am looking to meet other moms who SAH (all my friends work). I plan to go to one of the orientations but was just curious what other people thought of the program. TIA!

Re: PEPS?

  • I did.  It was great.  There's a leader for discussion, but it's a great place to air your concerns, successes, failures, etc.  After the "official" PEPs time ended (meaning, our leader was done), my group continued to meet for about a year.  Then I went back to work.  I believe many of the girls from my group (who are SAHM) still meet and/or do other mommy groups/classes together.  Totally worth it in my opinion!!

  • Dedinitely a great way to meet people.  I almost wish I did the daytime group since I SAH now, but love the folks in our group and it's nice to get out and socialize with DH.
  • My group turned out to be a bust, but I would still recommend it to anyone.  It's social like a play group, but with a leader for some help making it through those early months which is nice.   I would ALSO do the Evergreen Parent Baby class.  I think they fill different needs and they are both extraordinary programs.

  • I'm signed up for it- I don't have a group yet (in Shoreline). I can't wait Smile

Where are you located? There are some other newborn baby things to go too. I was thinking of doing this next week because other bumpies recommend it:

Our babies are about the same age Smile

  • I didn't do PEPS, but I also highly recommend Evergreen's parent-baby classes.
  • My PEPS group was another group that fizzled when the majority of the moms went back to work. I did make a few good friends from the group, so it was worth it, but you should know going into it that some groups click more than others.

  • Thanks for the additional links! I'm in Renton so they may be a little far, but they're giving me ideas of other places to look (like me own hospital... duh!) Your daughter is adorable BTW.  Smile

  • Thanks for all the input ladies! I will definitely go to the orientation and probably give it a try. Smile

  • I'm SO happy I did PEPS.  It was a great way to meet other people, close to home, with babies around the same age.  Our group has been over since the end of 2009 and a few of us still get together every week.  Plus we have holiday parties, group b-day parties and mom's night out with almost all of the original 12.  I know that not every group clicks as well as ours did, but I'd definitely say it's worth a shot.  Even if you make just a couple good connections you'll be glad you did it.
  • Kristintho -  We have met a ton of nice people through the MOMS Club of Renton.
