Babies: 9 - 12 Months

what "real food" is your 9-10 month old eating?

DD has had pancakes, egg yolks, chicken, turkey, potatoes, haddock........and then lots of stuff pureed. But trying to branch out and give her non pureed stuff. Guess I feel like I should be giving her more non pureed food, but am a bit nervous due to fear of her choking.

what else have you given LO? have you done small pieces of fruits/veggies?

  • My DD isn't great at the pincher grasp yet, but she will hold and take bites out of 1/3 of a banana. No problems with choking, she's pretty good at taking small bites.

  • Just recently tried fresh green beans...but he really didn't like them-he just played with them. He loves fresh cooked carrots.
  • DS loves tofu. I usually cube it and stir fry for us, so I just chop his up a bit into smaller pieces. We've also done black beans and garbanzo beans mashed up a bit more, but he could eat them whole too. I've given him little pieces of cheddar cheese and he does well with that. I usually just cut up sweet potatoes into small pieces and boil them, so those do ok as finger foods too. DS has a problem biting into things- when I give him mum mums, he just wants to shove the whole thing in his mouth, so the choking aspect makes me really nervous.

  • I also have that fear of him choking! I was the same way with DD! Ryan is 9 months and he's eaten banana, breakfast bars (he loves them, the Nutri Grain kind), cheerios, puffs, green peppers chopped up, yogurt, mum mums, toast with butter, pancakes and waffles. I tried some ravioli and he started gagging. the more you offer it the better they will get at chewing it up. Just watch them closely..he also still eats his purees too.

  • Aiden eats practically anything.  He eats steamed or baked sweet potato, squash, green beas, carrots, peas, apples, pears.  He eats chicken and has tried pork and beef (didn't care for either).  Bagels, waffles, graham crackers, lunch meat, Boca burgers, soup, pasta...  Just make sure stuff is smooshable.  Sometimes he gags but he's figured out spitting it all out if he realizes he's put too much in there :)

  • Everything, she eats what we eat.  Besides honey or anything hard (nuts, granola bars, etc) there is no limit to what we give her: fruits, veggies, meats, spreads (hummus, cream cheese), yogurt, eggs, breads, cereals, crackers, etc.

  • Meat - chicken, turkey, pork, ground beef

Vegetables - carrots, green beans, broccoli

Fruits - apples, peaches, banana, mandarin oranges, cantaloupe

    Pasta - rotini, penne, ravioli

Cheese - mozzarella string cheese, shredded cheddar, and mini Babybel cheese

Other - toast, pancakes, waffles, steamed potatoes, pizza, and grilled cheese, puffs, mum mums, yogurt melts, lil crunchies

Nothing too exciting, but I am trying to experiment more and more in terms of what I am giving her.

  • Shredded cheese, grilled cheese, pancakes, bananas, potatoes.  We are just really getting started with real foods.

  • Tofu (it is a great soft texture), little cubes of cheddar, shredded cheddar, banana, tiny cubed pieces of melon, tortellini, mac and cheese, turkey meatballs (from Trader Joes- frozen- just pop in microwave and voila), hummus.

  • Reece eats everything we eat, with the exception of honey and nuts. I'm not really worried about choking. Whenever he puts too much in his mouth, he works it out. Sometimes he gags quite a bit, but that's ok, it's how he learns. He typically eats a lot too. This morning he ate a whole banana and a half cup of regular oatmeal--the same as me! He's a piggy!
