Trying to Get Pregnant

Early LH Surge

I'm on day 5 of my cycle and I used a digital ovulation test fully expecting a negative result, but it was positive.  I have 30 day cycles, so a positive ovulation test on day 5 just seems wrong.  Should I be worried?  What's going on?

Re: Early LH Surge

  • Are you 100% sure it is positive? Is the test line darker or as dark as the control line?

  • The thing w/ OPKs is that they detect your LH surge but cannot confirm ovulation. You can surge multiple times during a cycle before you actually O. I wouldn't be worried, I would just keep checking CM and if you haven't started charting, I would.
  • You might just be having a wonky short cycle.  Hump it out so your bases are covered!  I'd probably continue using OPKs, though, just in case the + today was a fluke.  GL!

  • I used a digital test, so no lines to read.  I got an easy to read result, which was unfortunately positive!

Love it!  I'll be sure to "hump it out" the moment DH walks in the door :)

  • It is occasionally possible to get an early or late surge that does not result in ovulation.  Hump it out (just in case) and keep on testing.  There's a good chance you'll get another surge at the proper time.  But don't worry!  All our bodies do weird things sometimes.
