Laundry Question

I apologize if someone's already asked this!  I know I need to wash all the clothes, blankets, sheets, towels, etc that baby will use.  Do I also need to pre-wash the secondary items as well - the mattress pads, changing pad covers, cloth diapers  (for spit-ups, burping, etc)?

Re: Laundry Question

  • I've washed everything... with a non-fragrance detergent. I hate the way new stuff smells, sometimes chemically so I feel better having it all washed :)

This. So, in reference to the items you mentioned, everything except the mattress pad.

I'm a firm believer in washing everything, new stuff smells funny to me.  If my LO is going to be touching it it gets washed.

  • I would also wash the mattress pad.  It might not touch his skin, but he'll be so close to it and breathing in whatever it was manufactured/packaged in.
  • I wash EVERYTHING, including covers for carseats, bouncy chairs, swings, anything!  You never know what's on it as far as chemicals or germs from being made/packaged/shipped.  I feel good knowing it's all freshly laundered and ready for my baby.
