This is so crazy, but we have not been to Hawaii since our wedding in Feb 2008! So, FINALLY, we are going home! We got our tickets with miles and will dare to travel with an 18-mo-old on our lap. Well.... On DH's lap since I don't know if I'll have popped by then... We will be on Oahu April 24 to May 4!!!!! We might to a 1-2 night get-away to another island as a belated anniversary gift to ourselves... So send recs for most amazing places ever! (Four Seasons on Lanai is on the list)

so. jealous. of both of you! i'm really hoping we'll get to go later this year.
i hear the hyatt on kauai has an amazing pool. also, i'd love to stay at any of the hotels in wailea - so gorgeous - and the four seasons maui is great with kids (if you're bringing A, but if it's for your anniversary, maybe you leave her with your parents!) but i think i'd want to go to lanai!
that is great!
The Four Seasons Manele Bay seemed so nice. We did the Trilogy sail to Lana'i from Maui once and went in to the Four Seasons to have a drink. I would love to stay there some day. Seems like it would be pretty convenient too b/c they will pick you up from the airport and since there isn't much to do there besides relax you don't need to have a car or do other planning.
Lucky girl! I'm jealous! :-). We're planning a trip to Hawaii & Philippines this December so I hope it pushes through. You gotta give me some tips on how to keep a 13 mo old busy on a looong flight.
We stayed at Four Seasons Manele Bay for our honeymoon. We like it. It's where I had the best lomilomi massage ever! lol. I remember their poolside bar had good drinks too (eta: i forgot you can't drink lol). I assume it will just be you and DH? Go to FS Lanai if you do not plan to do anything. There is not much to see there. If you just want to relax and get pampered, that's the place to go. DH & I rented a Jeep and went off roading. It was fun. Not sure it's a good and safe activity for you though :P.
If you want a different vibe, you can also try the Volcano Rainforest Retreat on the BI. DH & I stayed there for our 1 yr anniversary and loved it. It was so cool staying in the middle of the rainforest. It was so peaceful and relaxing. It's not as luxurious as the FS but definitely a great/unique experience.

so jealous!!! you're going to have so much fun
we flew w/a 15 month old and i imagine it's about the same, except at 18 months maybe it will be a little bit harder to keep her occupied
you've flown w/her before though so you already the drill!
sounds like a GTG in is order for you, Tara, and the other hawaii ladies

Yay! Alexa will be fine..are you going to bring her car seat just in case they have an extra seat? Brings lots and lots of toys. Let me know if you need to borrow anything while you are here.
If you are taking Alexa outer island..why not try Hilton Waikoloa - Kona side? Fun family place and good rates.
Thanks for all the tips, everyone! We're super excited. We're going to pick up a COSTCO car seat to take with us, in case there's an extra seat on the plane. We'll also travel with tons of books (her favorite thing) and toys and we hope to get the new iPad2 and plan to load it up with games and books too and try them out on her beforehand...!!!
I'll be 2nd tri, so hopefully I'll be less tired and feel better! And hopefully not too big... Worried that she'll have to sit on DH's lap the whole time if I'm too big. That would make it harder on him...
If we go to another island, we'd leave Alexa with my parents and go on our own! A little get-away! Mini-babymoon. :-)
And yes... We should plan a group play date while Tara and I are there!

Hmmm, I have a question about this...do you just ask them before you board whether the flight is full or not, then just gate check the seat if it is? We totally didn't do this on our last flight and it wasn't full, so LO just sat in our lap the whole time...
yeah they will gate check the car seat if the flight is full at no charge.
we've had varied experiences here. i've checked in to a flight and had the agent tell me she'd put an "infant block" on the middle seat between us (since i always book window + aisle in hopes of keeping that middle seat open) so we could bring the car seat on w/us....and then i've had another agent tell us there's no such thing as an "infant block" - and it was the same airline!
