And finally......what do you keep?

I am ridiculously sentimental.  I have been cleaning out both boys' closets to make room for their spring and summer stuff.

I find myself emotionally attached to some of the items.  I can remember special events when they wore them, or just how little they were.  Some of it is blankets or cute sleepers that are just so tiny, I don't want to part with them.

I know I can't keep everything.  How do you decide what to save and what to get rid of/donate?  And for the love of God, where do you keep the things you want to have as keepsakes?

We are not having any more children, so once Tyler outgrows something or no longer has use for it, there's no need to save anything for future kids.  I just am having a very hard time parting with some things and I need some perspective.

Re: And finally......what do you keep?

  • I'd keep a few special outfits for each kid, their first pair of shoes, and special toys/animals...  As for the gear.. like infant seat, swing, bouncer, etc... I'd sell it on CL/donate.  I also plan on selling B's nursery stuff when we finally update his room.

My parents kept all of our toys.  I'm getting them in bits now.  Some Tonka trucks, my dad has all of our legos, etc...  They also kept our little wooden rocking chair.

I have all of my own HS sentimental things in one rubbermaid tub.  I worked really hard to get it all into that, but I felt like that wasn't a ton of stuff and enough for me to have my sentimental parts.

  • I plan on keeping special outfits, like those I bought specifically for pictures and also things that appear to be classic in design that could be passed along to future grandchildren. Nora got to wear an old blue jean jumper of mine and I was over the moon about that.
  • I am no help, I am still holding on to everything!

  • My mom kept everything and then when we were older went through it all and was able to pick through it easier.  It was time consuming and it made for a ton of crap to store.  But Caleb has come home wearing some of my brothers' stuff if he soils his clothes and I think that is awesome.  You could also pick some of the most sentimental things and have it made into a quilt or a pillow.  I think that is what I would/will do.....in 10 years.  HA!
