Has anyone had a tummy tuck? C-section? (NBR)

Random, I know. I figured I'd ask on the board where people have had their babies for quite a while. If so, how does it compare pain wise to a c-section? How long was it until you could pick up your LO?

  • Not personal experience, but my sister had a tummy tuck almost 2 years after her second c-section.  She seemed to indicate the tummy tuck was worse.

  • My MIL had one...she's older so I know it's not the same, but it wasn't a good experience.  She was in a LOT of pain and it lasted probably a couple of months.  They told her she could only take off her pressure band during showers so she started showering for hours a day....uhhhh, they mean that it's only ok to have it off for 15 minutes or so, MIL.  She made us all miserable.  She's also had multiple boob jobs and those are supposed to be bad, but this was way worse.

  • Not yet, but I plan on it after this 2nd pregnancy! I had a c-section with LO and honestly, I didn't think that was horrible after the first few days, more so inconvenient but not painful. I haven't heard any horror or painful stories about tummy tucks either. I know I will get one because even after my LO was a year old I had a puffy belly no matter what and looked like I was newly pregnant even though I wasn't at that time! Very frustrating bc I've always been in good shape! If you are planning on having another LO I would wait though til you are done (many docs recommend that). GL!

  • My cousin had a tummy tuck. She is tiny but had a small pouch (I wish I had her 'problem') after her second child. She showed me her stomach after and said "it looks fake". I have to agree, it did look fake. I didn't even know that was possible but it did. Like I said though, she was very small and petite. Her belly button really looked fake. A few years have passed and it looks wonderful now. As for the pain, she has had her boobs done, a natural childbirth and tummy tuck. She claims the tummy tuck was the worst.

I also had a friend who had one and said it wasn't too bad.  I always said after children I was gonna get one but after a horrible c-section recovery I think I've reconsidered.

  • My mom had one and said it was horrible, etc.  But I lost a lot of weight (~160lbs) before I had my DD...and all she did was strech my loose skin back out....actually some people I work with didn't know I was pregnant until they announced I had her, LOL...they thought I just gained some weight back.

So...even if it was awful I would LOVE to get one...I've went for a consultation and everything...but now with DD I don't know who would take care of her since I SAH and DH works long hours and family is not close...all my loose skin makes me so depressed....especially lately.

  • My friend had one recently, she said it is pretty painful.  I guess she had a lot of pain meds though (pain pump?)  But she kept saying how she has the stomach of a 16 year old now so she is psyched even though recovery is slow.
  • My mother had one done. Her stomach looks AMAZING.  Howver, she has a 25 year olds stomach and the rest of her body....um not so much. I plan on getting one for my 40th birthday, if not sooner.  My stomach is ruined already, just after one child.  I know a girl who had hers two months after her 3rd child was born and her recovery time was pretty good.  But she also had some help.  I may get my girls lifted up too some day.

Thanks for all of your responses! Sucks to hear how many people said the recovery was pretty rough. I did some research and found this to be many people's experience. Just like with anything, I hope that the people who had the good experiences are just not bothering to write anything. Supposedly if a person has a good experience with something, they share with one person. If they have a sh!tty one, they share it with seven.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this is applicable here! Like some of the pp's mentioned, my belly is wrecked after my one 9.13 lb boy. I'm petite and I looked like octomom at the end of my pregnancy. Now that I've lost all the weight, the skin looks atrociously loose and there's a bulge on the upper portion of my abdomen. My doctor coined this abdominal muscle separation "diastasis".

SOOOooo, I scheduled my tummy tuck for June 24th. Excited and scared to death at the same time. Wish me luck ladies and thanks for your advise!

  • So I assume then that you dont plan to have anymore kids then?

I would love to wake up some day and my tummy look like i had one, but alas I have 5 kids and run 2 businesses and dont have any "down time " to recover..

  • I would kill for the complete "mommy over haul."   I need a tummy tuck, lipo, and a boob lift. Oh hell, I need an everything lift.

I would love to have the tummy tuck, but I just can't imagine spending the 7K on one.

Yea, we're one and done. I wouldn't be able to afford it either if my husband's cousin wasn't a plastic surgeon. Even with that, I'll be tapping into my savings. It's a small price to pay to get my confidence back. I entertained the thought of waiting until LO was 5 years old, but I'll be 37 by then. I still would like to feel good about my body in my "early 30's" if that makes sense.
