Clicky Poll: tell me if I'm being unreasonable

Because DH thinks I am, I think I'm not and should say something to the sitter, while he thinks I should keep my mouth shut because it's "normal".

When I was giving DD a bath last night, I noticed a rather sizeable, nasty looking bruise on her lower back. There's no way I wouldn't have noticed it before, so the assumption is she got it while at the sitter's yesterday.

But nothing was said about her falling, hurting herself, etc.

I understand that toddlers get bruises, but this is seriously nasty looking. I don't suspect any sort of abuse or anything, but for something that obviously hurt, pretty badly, I do expect to be informed by whomever is watching her that there was an incident, and let me know what happened, how they took care of it, etc.

Reasonable request? or no?[Poll]

  • absolutely bring it up. even if you arent sure it happened there! dont be accusatory, just say something along the lines of "i noticed a new bruise on DD's back yesterday, did she take a tumble?" if she says Yes then you need to let hwer know that she is always to inform you of things like this. regardless of it being toddler behavior

  • I think that's a no brainer.  I definitely would say something.  In fact, this just happened 2 weeks ago.  Katelyn had a full bite bruise on her forearm.  There was a bruise in the shape of a top and bottom teeth bite.  I called daycare first thing in the morning and was pissed I never heard anything about it.

  • I agree with Jen whole heartedly, but wanted to add that Eli comes home with them at times too.  Not often... maybe like 1 a year that didn't have an incident form attached to it.  I wouldn't be worried about abuse unless it was happening more frequently (i.e. it happens again where they don't say anything).  But I have used almost identical wording to what Jen said before and they don't take it as an accusation and just talk to you about what could have happened, if anything.

This is almost verbatim what I was going to suggest.

  • I would definitely ask her if she knew what happened.  Something like what JenRose said.

I just wanted to add that a lot of times the kids will fall and I'll inspect them and see nothing and I don't tell my parents about that. If one of my kids gets a mark on them or is really crying hard after an accident, I will definitely write it on their daily report.  But sometimes they get over it so fast and no mark develops right away and then later there is a mark.   I've even given C a bath a few times and noticed a bruise on her leg that I have no clue how it got there.

Of course if she came home with bruises daily or even weekly I'd be hugely concerned.

I just wanted to give you another perspective on it too.  :)

    Ditto this.

  • I think everyone has pretty much covered my thoughts on this.
