Oh, and my UO:  I think political correctness has gone way overboard nowadays.  I understand there are certain things that are socially unacceptable but I swear it feels like you can't walk out your front door without someone getting offended.  Whatever happened to plain old common sense?

That offends me, you know?  Wink

ITA. Once, I referred to my (now deceased) brother as being autistic and the person replied "you mean he's a person with autism" in a very condescending tone.

What always surprised me is the amount of people that seemed to think she was some sort of "God" for lack of a better word.  And these people would post a thread pointing her to it so she could make some sort of comment like what she has to say really means anything?!

I honestly think people would suck up to her so that she wouldn't flame them. She is a real biitch and could say some pretty rotten things and I think that made people try to get on her good side.

ITA with this.  I also feel like she would really talk down to people just because she thought she had a right to because of all she went through.  Don't get me wrong - what she went through sucks.  But I do feel like she would automatically jump on people without knowing the full background of what someone else went through or by relying on 2nd and 3rd hand gossip.  There are a ton of women on here that have gone through just as much (and some maybe more) but don't hold it over people or bring it up a lot.

Not trying to jump on the bandwagon here, but what got to me the most was the uppity attitude.

I am ALL for making interweb friends. I met my husband on Halo2. I made good friends on that game. I hope to make some friends outa this group.

With that. I will NOT try overly hard (as A LOT of people on here do) to jump on bandwagons, kiss a$$, and generally suck at being an individual.

We all have an innate drive to be liked. Popular even. Not a one of you can deny it. But when I come on here and post? I post what's relevant to me, not necessarily what's going to get the regs in on my threads. My feelings do not get hurt when certain people do not respond.

Couldn't agree more.  I guess this thread really isn't that unpopular because I agree with almost everyone!  Sp my own UO, I do not think it will damage your child if they "watch" tv 15 min a day.  I have to do something to keep her occupied after I leave for work so DH can get ready.  It is the only time and only 3 days a week and we interact with her all of the rest of the time she is awake.  I felt guilty for a while, but I realized how ridiculous that was.  Don't use it as a constant babysitter and it is ok.

ITA.  I never had an issue with her and I mostly agreed with her on a lot of topics.

What drove me crazy about her is that she used every possible avenue to infer how much money her family makes.  When there was a thread about strollers it was always about her UppaBaby Vista and how it was expensive and most people would buy one if they could afford it.  We could afford the Uppa just fine, but I think they are butt fvcking ugly so that's why we didn't get one.

I can probably find about 300 other threads with the same theme.  She just assumes that everyone on here makes a pittance compared to her.  I can say, most assuredly, that is very much not the case with DH and I (haha...I guess that's my inference to our money).

Then, she goes on like she's the one with all the class.  I'm sorry, classy people don't brag about their money nor do they start drama for the sake of starting drama.

A lot of terms having to do with conditions are rephrased now... "someone with bipolar disorder/autism/dyslexia". I think the thought is to not make the disease as an adjective of the person or something.

    - I don't mind Destination Weddings and only think it's selfish if people get upset if you can't make it.  Like others said, typically every wedding is a "destination" for some of your guests, 70% of my guests were out of towners and I appreciated them spending the money/time to come.  I love when we are invited to DW's because it gives us an excuse for a vacation and we only really have to go if we want to.  As for finances, most people give you a year or more notice, plenty of time to save.

    I just googled it.

Jozsef remained a recluse and threatened to kill his wife and daughter many times. Child Protective Services was called numerous times, but as Maria was reluctant to press any charges, the case was never followed up. Maria rented an apartment for her daughter and herself as a daytime safe haven away from Jozsef. On July 27, 1988, the bodies of Judith and Maria Barsi were discovered by fire fighters responding to a call from a neighbor reporting a fire at the Barsi house.[1] The date of the murder has never been determined; the police have said that Jozsef could have killed his wife and child on July 25 or July 26.[1] It is believed that, after realizing that Maria was planning to leave him, Jozsef entered Judith's second-floor bedroom and shot her in the head; he then shot Maria in the same way as she ran down the corridor toward her daughter's room.[1] He then drenched the bodies in gasoline and set the house on fire before shooting himself in the garage.

Sad I hate hearing stories like this, but I had to ask...

This!!! Are toddlers hard to keep track of at times? Yes. Should you keep an eye on them and be a good parent? Yes. Don't leash them....parent them!!

    Yes

They are so unnecessary. I also think leashes are a crutch. If your toddler likes to bolt, you work on changing that behavior. A stroller is also an option.

The fact that I've used a "leash" on my daughter in no way means that I can't/don't parent her.  It means that she is an active child and I'm afraid of her out running me in a crowd or bolting into traffic.  You don't have to use one but you shouldn't be so judgemental of those who do, you don't know their child or what's best for them.

you're probably right. When DS#1 was a toddler, he had CRAZY energy and ran all around. I had a keep a close eye on him otherwise I would lose him. I guess it would be harder with 2 or more little ones running around. But can you call it sometime else besides a "leash"?

I used a "leash" on my older daughter.  I hate it when people say I won't use one because my kid is not an animal.  If you don't want to use one fine, but don't act like I'm treating my kid like a dog because I'm worried about her safety.  DD was a bolter and in a crowd there was no way I was taking any chances with her!

I like the way you worded this.  I wanted to say something, but couldn't find the right thing to say without sounding snarky.  FWIW, my parents used a leash on me when I was little because I was a roamer/bolter.  My cousins also had them.  My H should've had one because he was constantly getting away from my ILs.  I have no problems using one for J if she needs it.

Agreed.  Totally plan to leash my DD.  She gets a little freedom to move without the risk of bolting into traffic or getting snatched.  Plus I don't have to break my back constantly holding her hand.  And anyone that thinks they will never lose sight of their faster than they could ever imagine toddler is being a little naive IMO.  It only takes turning your back for a split second.  As long as you aren't using a choke chain, its fine.  I'm also crate training (crib Wink)

That's not true for everyone (it certainly wasn't for me - he's 13 now).

I totally agree with this.  But my kid always seems to have a "moment" when I'm trying to eat.  It's like he knows haha

My UO stems from a conversation that the hubby and I had:  I think its lame when women get all offended if they catch their husband masturbating.  It's perfectly healthy IMO.  I would only have a problem with it if my husband would rather spank it than spank me Wink

  • I love how everyone complained about the boards being "boring" as in no drama, and then there was one big 'ol explosion recently and now all of a sudden the boards were drama ridden?

I also find it funny how random people are coming out of the woodwork now, knowing LCB isn't on the boards, and saying how she started drama all the time and you are happy she is gone.

LCB, never started drama, she was just brutally honest, and her and I have had knock down drag out fights before, and I will be the first to tell her that her responses are blunt, brutal, and honest, but never has she once just started drama.

As for the autistic thing not being accepted vernacular, I had to LOL at that.  Autism is a clinical diagnosis along with PDD, aspergers, ADHD, apraxia, etc..etc...if you want to talk about a derogatory or a not politically correct word, try the word retarded.

ETA: So, a person with autism is considered autistic. Autistic is correct, and that person was an idiot.

Yes!  That "just you wait" always bothered me the most.  People complaining about not showering for days etc.  If you can leave the baby alone and sleep when the baby sleeps, you can also leave them alone for 10 minutes to shower.
