So if you missed it, weeks ago I watched "House" and the patient had some of the same symptoms and auto-immune stuff I do, and was dx with "metallosis", an allergy to the metal (titanium and nickel) in her hip replacement. That got me all worked up, and started digging, and digging, and digging.
I found lots of medical lit that suggests this is a really real and plausible theory, my immunologist said "sure, test for it!" (but all it that will show is if I'm allergic, not if the metal rods in my back (severe scoliosis, fusion in my mid-20's) has ground away and has started infiltrating the tissue and area around the spine) and Dr. Sassy agreed yesterday that this was a really REAL possibility. My body is already a hornet's nest from the metal issues, and anything else gets attacked along side it. ALL of my auto-immune issues started AFTER the surgery in 1997. ALL of them. Even something as I used to have my ears double pierced (cuz I was rad like that) and wore cheap earings all week long. Now I can't wear anything. Period.
Well, my D.O.'s office finally called me back today (the spine doc that followed me as a kid with this, and did my thoracic fusion) and said metal allergies could very well be the issue. They've seen it 1st hand, and know of a few more auto-immune cases. Rod removal at this point could be very very difficult and nasty, but steroids would help flare ups, immune crisises, etc. They also swore up and down that I have stainless steel rods, not titanium, but I can pull old records to double check. SS is MUCH more likely to cause these issues than titanium. I sat there in the middle of the grocer's freezer section, listening to her tell me this, tears running down my face, knowing that FINALLY we could have something tangible. Something real.
A reason, other than me.

I wrote this prior to getting the amazing package, so this is just the most DELICIOUS FROSTING on my already scrumpious cake! I might as well come out of the closet and admit another little tidbit... IVF #3 started yesterday, on Ava's bday. We have a new steroid therapy plan, all docs in my realm are on board with the potential of this working, and retrival is less than a month away. :::going back to lurking about this information:::::: ;-)
Oh you guys... what an amazing day! Thanks again!!!

Wow! Fingers crossed this is the answer you've been searching for!!
Oh wow, I have goosebumps all over. It sounded so PLAUSIBLE when you mentioned it a couple weeks ago. Go House! And go Tracie -- so smart!
And on the next episode...DavezWife! And her...baby???

Our early Christmas present 12/9/10
Someone young, pretty, SUPER SKINNY, and delightful funny.
You know, someone just like myself. BRRUUHAAAA!!!!!!!! OMG, that would be a movie for Lifetime if I ever saw one. One only the infertiles would watch, and the producers would change the phase transfer into "implant" against my will, shunning me forever.
lol.
Awesome.
Lemme know when it's on.

Wow. Wow. Wow. I love it when a patient does her own research and works as a partner with her medical team (and .. possibly beats them to the answer while doing so!)
You have to write to the production team at House and share your story with them. Just because.
