Poll for pg ladies & moms who've been there (clicky)

I'm curious about this.  If your relationship with your DH/SO was/is different during pregnancy, was/is it more lovey-dovey and mushy or more irritable and short-tempered?

  • SS- I would say about the same, I was more emotional, so he may say different.

  • DH was not interested in the pregnancy or the birth process.  That was (and still is) a touchy subject for me.  Once the baby arrived, he was totally involved, but nada for the 9 preceding months.  I had to DRAG him to childbirth class, and he made sarcastic comments and giggled throught the whole thing.

I am kind of a SS. I voted for more mushy. But, it would be more accurate if there was an option for "more mushy with random bouts of neurosis."

After the baby was born; however, I was a crazed, emotional lunatic. I cried and got pissed in all sorts of random and unexplained ways. I felt sorry for DH because he was walking on egg shells for about 6 months PP!

  • I voted SS.  It was a little of both, depending on the day.  Some days it was both on the same day. Stick out tongue

this, he now tells me I was crazy for about 3 months post pregnancy.
  • We're neither mushy nor irritable (though we have bouts of each).  We're generally pretty matter-of-fact with one another, and that was the same during pregnancy.

  • Mine changed with the trimesters.  I'll be the first to admit I was BSC my 1st tri.  2nd I was totally mushy, lovey dovey, and by the 3rd everything either irritated me or made cry.

  • We were more lovey at first and then I was short tempered at the end when when I was DONE being pg. :)

    I could have written this.

  • we went from "sheer panic" when we first found out to now he's more mushy and lovey dovey.  He's always been helpful and loving but now he's even more so.  I'm loving it!

  • I voted SS, since it was a little bit of both.

  • SS - we're not particularly mushy or short tempered normally. I'd say we were normal with some mushiness here and there.

  • We were far more self-absorbed with our first pregnancies. Despite growing a baby, it was still just us in the house, so we got (mostly) carry on as usual. The rest of the time was spent in survival mode because of my back/gall bladder issues, but I remember a few times where I snapped at him. That wasn't the normal me, so I made amends. He was there for the classes and was very involved (caught E, cut the cord and took care of her so I could pass out). As she got older it was tougher to be as self-absorbed as couple. Now we spend much of the time together parenting her, so we have date nights/days where we can go and just enjoy each other without having to parent someone. It took us almost a year and a half after E was born to hit our stride though...the adjustment wasn't particularly easy, but we have a few family dynamic now and it's about to change again. Basically, we just roll with the punches and try to carve out time for ourselves.

  • SS - it was about the same, my hubby is not a lovey dovey person (wish he was)

But if you want AFTER kids - it's no where near lovey dovey and more toward irritable - every.single.day
