Confused about how much weight I've gained...

Ok, this is a dumb question, but it's been bugging me because I don't know at what point I start counting the pounds I've gained.  I lost 11 pounds in the first tri.  I have gained that all back, plus another 8 pounds.  So do I start counting my total weight gain from the lowest point, or do I start counting from after I got back up to my pre-pregnancy weight?  Have I gained a total of 8 pounds or 19 pounds??  I hope that makes sense...?  Embarrassed

  • I would say you would just count the 8 pounds.  You take your starting weight from you BFP and the weight you are now.  I dont think the loss in 1st tri should reduce your starting weight.

By the way I am jealous....I have gained close to 30 pounds!  Your 8 sounds so much better!

  • Yeah I've gained 15, but if I count first tri loss it's a little over 20. So I just count the 15 Smile (fwiw, that's what my dr counts too. And he has seriously given me a high five at every visit if I gain!)

  • I would also say to only count the 8.... the 11 you lost during first tri was prob a result of MS or not drinking or whatever.... but overall, you are up 8lbs from your starting weight!

Good for you! Im up about 15!

  • I agree with the 8lbs.  Way to go!
  • my doc is only counting what i've actually gained too

i lost about 10lbs from the ms, and right now i've gained about 8-9 of that back.

not bad for me then! only 9lb weight gain at this point! hopefully i can still keep it under 20!

  • My midwife determines from pre-pregnancy weight. So even though I lost a few pounds at the beginning, I was up 11 pounds at my last doctor's appointment from pre-pregnancy, which means to them, I only "gained" 11 pounds.
  • Thanks, ladies!  I weighed more than I should have before I got pregnant, so I guess I always consider my pre-pregnancy weight to be lower than it really was.  Also, it bothers me even more now that the doctor told me that I gained too much weight last month when apparently I've only gained 8 pounds total!

  • I'm in the same boat.  Just count the positive.  You lost 11, gained 19, for a total of 8 pounds gained. (-11+19=8).
  • I just count from where I started.
