71 Percentile for Growth

What does this mean?? My doctor just called to tell me that the baby is measuring in the 71st percentile for growth and she said that everything is great! The baby so far is 4 lbs 1 ounce and I am 31 weeks along.

Re: 71 Percentile for Growth

  • It means there are 29% of babies bigger than yours at this point in your pregnancy and 70% that are smaller. So it means you're in range. That's great.

  • Oh great! I know its probably silly to not know that-LOL..but these days everything freaks me out and scares me...even though the doctor told me that was good, its just nice to reassure yourself....the only bad thing is the baby moved and is not in the downward position so mommy may need a c-section (that will def FREAK ME OUT!!!)

  • I wouldn't worry about the percentage too much.  I went to one ultrasound and they told me 60th percentile, then I needed another ultrasound the next week and they told me 90th percentile.  I heard that the ultrasound measurements can be as much as 1-2 weeks off and 1 lb off.
  • My OB said on the high side there is no reason for concern unless you are in the 97th percentile or over.

At 31 weeks the baby still has plenty of room to move around and flip over.  Def not a sign of a C-section at this point.  GL!

  • dang my baby was in the 25th percentile at 20 weeks. however i am small, my whole family is, and so is my FI's family so my doctor isn't really worried.
  • My baby is 70th percentile too... measuring 3 lbs 6 ounces at 28 weeks 3 days.  S/he has pretty much been 70th percentile the whole time (I have growth ultrasounds every 4 weeks since 20 weeks).  Sounds good to me!
