11 mo and Still Not Interested in Solids?

Dez has been doing BLW with me full time and then was getting spoon-fed with my dad (the DCP) until recently when he just decided to let him eat off their plates.  I am hearing about babies eating several ounces of food at a sitting but Dez gets maybe a tablespoon down. He is a healthy weight so I am not worried about that and I am getting less milk when I pump so I think he may be heading towards weaning in the next few months (not that I'm in any hurry).

All in all, I'm assuming I shouldn't worry but I'm just wondering if anyone else's LO was still primarily playing with their food at 11 mo?  He will let us put bites in his mouth and he will grab things (like the hunk of cheddar cheese he snatched from me while cooking) and gum them down (he sort of nurses them Smile) for about 10 minutes until it's a soggy mess but he's still not really feeding himself, per se.
WDYT? Normal?

  • Yep, us too.  I wrote a similar post a week or so ago.  E is not into solids very much yet either.  He's still nursing & is a healthy weight, but just not very interested in solid food (except crackers!).  So I'm just continuing to nurse & offer him solids when we eat, even though he mostly just throws them on the floor.

So I have no advice really, but my LO is doing the same thing, so you're not alone.

    Yes and yes.

Well, good. At least it's not just us! Haha

    Thanks, SCB!

  • If it is any consolation, DS would not accept anything we tried to put in his mouth after 6 months old (unless it was a nipple!).  It is just in the past few months that he will even lick things so hopefully they are just taking their time and will start taking more interest when they are ready, nothing more than that.
  • That sounds exactly like us. He's nursing less but is wetting, growing, and seems to be satisfied, so I'm not going to stress about it. I was concerned so I tried spoon feeding purees and he wanted none of it. He'd be a good sport and take a bite, then clamp his mouth shut and flail his arms if the spoon got too close, lol.

I try and let him feed himself, and I'll give him bites from my fork so I feel like he's getting a little bit of food at least.

  • My DD fought food until about 13 months.  She would get a few bits of baby food a day, but she hated it anyway.  So then after about 13 months she was a little more receptive to the whole idea.  Even in the past few months she is just now getting better with finger foods, but she is super picky.  She will eat a few cheerios, goldfish, puffs, pieces of mac n cheese, here and there, but I am still feeding her baby food!
  • Same thing here.  DS2 usually isn't interested in eating much.  He does enjoy his puffs and cheerios though.  DS1 was eating 3 meals a day (multiple items at each feeding) every day.  DS2 doesn't even eat one meal a day with regularity!  Every once an awhile he gets very interested in food, but for the most part he's not interested at all yet.
