XP - Size of Baby....

Good Morning,

So I went friday for an ultrasound and they said that the baby was measuring 5 lbs 4 oz (which is average for 35 weeks, and i was 32 1/2).  They are saying the baby is in the 91% range.  Is anyone else hearing this? I had a visit with my OB before the ultrasound so now I have to wait two weeks to see what she says.  Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.  Are ultrasound weights usually accurate?  TIA

Re: XP - Size of Baby....

  • I have measured three weeks ahead per u/s since 29 weeks, they can be off by a pound or more, and isn't much to be concerned about.

  • Was it a level I or level II ultrasound?  Level I's can be off up to a pound and level II's are only off a couple of ounces.
  • U/S weight guesses can be off by up to a pound.  We were told last week that he is measuring 5 lb 7 oz (at 34w4d) and I assume he was around 5 lbs.

  • My doc said yesterday that they will accept any and all percentages between 10% and 90%.  And, I have always heard that they vary by +/- a pound as well.  I actually don't know the difference between a level 1 or level 2 u/s.  Hmm
  • Mine was measuring 4lbs8oz at 31 weeks. Which put her OVER the 97th percentile. I go back at 36 weeks for a follow up to figure out why.

Mine was at my high risk doctor, and I'm not sure if it was a level 1 or level 2. I have heard they can be wrong up to a pound. But I won't know anything else until April 7th when I go back.

  • DD always measured a week ahead (and I had a TON of u/s because I had GD).  About a week before her birth they told me she was about 7lbs and she was born at 7lbs 3 oz..however, my friend was told the day she was induced that her LO was 7.5 lbs and she delivered a 9lb 12oz baby...  I think it depends on the position of the baby and what measurements they can get, plus I wouldn't depend on it to be exact either way.

  • With my first LO i was overdue and had to have lots of u/s at the end. i was told she would be over 9 pounds. she was only 7 1/2. I wouldnt be worried. i figure i cant stop the baby from getting huge or coming out to small so i am just waiting to see how big this one will be

THIS! Both my OB and MFM specialist told me this. LO was measuring consistently ahead at the OB office and they said it can be off quite a bit. Once he measured big at the MFM office, which was a level 2 u/s, they told me it was accurate. So no... not "all" u/s can be off by up to a pound like everyone on here is quick to say. I WISH they were, but it's not true. 5 lb 8 oz at 32 weeks here...

  • My baby is measuring 88th percentile and has been for the last 3 weeks. At 35 wks 5 days I was told I have a 7 lb baby!

This was a "level II" ultrasound so supposedly they aren't off by more than 15%. The fun part? Her head is measuring the largest--at 35w5d she had a "40 week" head and her tummy and thigh bone were only few days to a week ahead--this seems to run in my family.

oh, and no GD although my OB just made me take the 1 hr test again because she doesn't want people to be saying "giant baby! you had GD and the OB missed it."
