Swelling....at 19 weeks?

My ankles just started swelling slightly last week and was woried that it might be a sign of preeclamsia... however, my face and hands are not swollen and I haven't gained much weight (5 pounds total) so I'm a little confused. My blood pressure was normal today (106/69). Has anyone else had this issue? what can I do to stop/ prenvent it? Any tips?

  • do you stand on your feet a lot? that might cause your feet to get tired and swell

  • I started swelling in my feet and ankles right at 20 weeks. I got checked out but it was just normal pregnancy swelling. If you're concerned call your Dr. but it may just be nothing.

This.  It's also worth mentioning to your doctor at your next appointment.  Also, how much salt you eat will affect the swelling.  If you're eating processed food, eating out a lot, or drinking a lot of soda, you're consuming more salt.

  • I drink a TON of water and sit at a computer all day... hmmm... but I should watch my salt intake more carefully. I have always had swelling isues, even pre-pregnancy. Thanks!
  • Also try elevating your legs above your heart at night, just propping them up on pillows while you're in bed relaxing. Doing ankle pumps while elevated while also help with circulation and swelling.

  • Swelling in feet and hands is common, but if you have swelling in your face that can be an issue.  My swelling started right around 20 weeks :)  Just keep your feet up - it really helps!
