2nd Trimester

Im not crazy, this is definately a boy right?! PIP

image

Ok, so i know this is probably ridiculous, but yesterday when someone looked at my ultrasound they told me it is not possible to determine sex at 15 weeks.  Obviously this looks like a boy to me, but this person kept telling me it was just the cord :/  Now i'm doubting the fact that I already started buying things and we are painting the room this weekend because i'm only 15 weeks.  What do you all think?  Am I definately having a boy?

  • It looks like a boy to me. But I wouldn't be going super crazy on shopping and decorating just yet. Ultrasounds have been known to be wrong. If you are going to shop then at least keep the tags and the receipts just in case.

    Congrats!

  • pretty sure you can determine sex at 15 weeks.  and if tech said boy, i would believe them.  who was looking at your ultrasound saying it's the cord?  if they don't have a license for operating the machine, just ignore them.

This.  It looks like a boy to me, but I don't know if I would paint the room just yet.

  • It looks like a boy to me.  And yes, it is possible to tell as early as 14 weeks.  Most will not make firm predictions that early though.  However, I'd wait until your official anatomy scan at around 20 weeks +/- to be sure.  Don't go painting just yet.  You still have a ways to go!
  • I swear someone posted to this board in the past couple of weeks that they had a friend who was told on two different occasions it was a boy and she ended up delivering a girl. :) Honestly, it looks like a boy to me, but I would wait until your anatomy scan before you start painting and buying clothes.

    This exactly.

  • Well they guessed wrong for me at 12 weeks but thats a few weeks shy of 15.....so not sure....If your having another ultrsound I wouldnt worry, you can confirm then.

  • That definitely looks like a boy to me.  My LO looks just like that.  Whoever that someone was that said it's not possible to determine the sex at 15 weeks is wrong.  I read in WTEWYE that you can see as early as 12 weeks.

Anyway, I probably wouldn't start going crazy decorating yet.  You have loads of time to do that!  But I'm 95% that arrow is pointing to the penis.  The cord is much longer than that!

  • Looks like a boy to me! I found out that we were having a girl at 14weeks3days. However, the tech said that its hard to be confident until 16 or 17 weeks. She gave us the whole "70%" girl, "30%" of a boy.

I have also heard that boys are harder to tell earlier b/c the ambilical cord often gets mistaken for a penis early on.

It looks like a BOY to me, but I would wait until your anatomy scan to be confident (which is what we did- 100% girl!)

  • Lurking from 3rd tri. Most people will tell you it is WAY too early to determine a gender at this point. I give the side eye to your tech who wrote "I'm a Boy" on that photo.

  • It looks like a boy to me but I'd wait for another u/s to confirm if you're not feeling confident in that.
  • Looks like the same as my ultrasound at 15 weeks (a boy)! My tech said if he comes out a girl then he will pay her college tuition to TCU!

  • I certainly wouldn't go paint the room or buy a bunch of stuff based on a 15 week u/s, based on what I've read about sex determination that early.  However, I'm not an u/s tech so who knows.  I will say that my MFM and the elective u/s place refused to give any gender guesses until 16 weeks because they feel 15 weeks is too early.  They are professionals and do this all day long every day so I would be skeptical at 15 weeks if someone said for sure boy.

  • looks like boy... but are you going to have an anatomy scan as well more around 20 weeks?

I would wait till then to go to crazy.

Ive heard that the vulva and male parts can look quite similar up to a certain gestational age....but im not sure when that stops . good luck

  • I found out the sex at 13 weeks via my nuchal screening.  It wasn't done by a tech though, it was by an MD who had been doing it for years.  And sure enough its still a boy!  Got the final answer at my anatomy scan. I would just wait a little longer for a clearer picture for a definative answer though.  CONGRATS!
