Upper back pain when sitting

Anyone else? It's HORRIFIC. But, only when I'm sitting. Standing and laying takes it away. And it's only on my right side. I'm wondering if something's out?

Re: Upper back pain when sitting

  • I have been having the same problem for several weeks.   Some of the reading I did suggested it could be strain from the weight of the chest growing.   They recommended sitting up straight or leaning into the back of the chair.  I also sometimes get temporary relief by leaning back in the chair and putting my hands over my head.

My doctor said it was not unusual and the best cure was having the baby....sighh :)

  • Yea I have it too. I just deal with it lol. My H tried to massage me but it made it worse.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • I am so happy that I have FINALLY heard from someone that they are having the same pains!  I am not happy that you are in pain, but no one can tell me what they are.  As I have been getting later in pregnancy, they hurt even when I am laying.  I told my husband I am going to sleep vampire style since I can't do anything to get comfy.

I made my last day of work last week since the pain has gotten horrible.  No real purpose to my post, just relieved to know that I am not the only one.

  • I have been having the same pain for weeks now. I have a tennis ball at work that I lean against in the spot where my back hurts and it helps a lot.  It also helps to get up and walk around every so often.  Thankfully my MW put me on 1/2 days, so I'm not sitting at my desk all day otherwise I think the pain would be unbearable.

  • No way! I am also having the EXACT same problem. I've had this issue for over a month now. The only way I can get any relief is by sort of leaning over to the side in the opposite direction of the pain. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I suspect it's relate to the weight of the baby/uterus.

I got a prenatal massage a couple weeks ago and asked her to concentrate on that area, and she said it was really tight there. The massage helped for awhile, but now the pain is coming back.

I find it's worst in the car!  I have a 35 minute commute to and from work every day and I feel so uncomfortable the entire time.
