3rd Trimester

OMG Pubes!!!

Anyone else tired of the ongoing discussion of pubic hair/shaving/waxing/trimming? What is the fascination here? Do people really, seriously care what their medical team thinks about their hairy/non-hairy hoo? Are you so insecure that you can't have a little pubic hair? Do you think it feels weird, is that it? Is your DH all like "I don't care if you are hugely pregnant with our child, shave that poon!" Are you regularly paying someone to rip the hair off your swollen ladybits? Am I the only dirty hippie that is rockin the full-on 70's bush? Please, help me understand.......

Re: OMG Pubes!!!

  • Just personal preferrence for me. I know my doctor doesn't care but I just feel better with no hair (except a landing strip), which is why I've continued my normal waxing every 6 weeks routine.

  • LOL--thank you for providing a laugh during my prep period between ninth grade classes.  I've often wondered why people care so much, but your interpertation is funny!

FYI--rocking the 70's bush over here too :)

No, you are not the only one.  Some of us don't even shave our legs.  The HORROR Indifferent

  • I had to have a nurse shave mine before my c-section. I wish I had taken care of the lady garden at home.

  • I think it's a personal choice. I trim for my comfort, the fact that DH and my doctor get to see it all trimmed is a plus, but not my motivation!
  • It's a forum. Topics are meant to be endlessly discussed. The baby is coming out of our vagina so it's just natural for woman to ask/think about it. Everyone is different. All the woman I know shave so yes, I will probably shave the best I can as well. Just do you! If you have always rocked the bush then rock it!

  • Yep just a personal preference to me. I don't care about what my dr thinks, I just don't like hair so I take care of it.
  • I think it's hysterical how many posts are dedicated to the grooming of our respective va-jay-jays.

Seriously, the doctors/nurses do not care.

Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • I have no problem with people rockin the natural look, I go back and forth depending on how I feel.  For me, I am going to make sure that it is shaved or at least short so that if I tear, it is easier to see/ take care of.  I don't care what the doctor/nurses think, but I don't need to be wading through hair to see if the stitches are doing alright.

  • When I don't shave down there, I itch like crazy, all the time.  And I think not shaving intensifies the pregnancy-induced vag funk that's already bugging the crap out of me.  And I think it's habit... I was a swimmer throughout my teens and there was no way to avoid shaving in those racing suits.

  • I also think the pube obsession on here is bizarre.

I keep mine trimmed up and that is the best I can say.  I only do that because it is super uncomfortable not to.  Otherwise, I'm rockin it old school too... The way I look at it is I know my doctor sees worse every day, so I am really not worried about him or the nurses!

  • lol, I think the shaving posts are a bit ridiculous, but that's why I don't go in to them. My DH trims me.  I like having short hair.  A full on bush doesn't appeal to me or DH.  Also, TMI....but all the discharge I have would make quite a crust in a bush.

  • Ok, true confession time....... I have leg hair as well. I rarely shave my legs, but I'm a Ginger, so it is nearly invisible unless you go stroking my legs or something. AND just to add to the scary hairy time, I have ARM PIT HAIR. It is sort of funny, because my dad it a ginger too, and now my pits remind me of my Dad...awwww. Anyway, this is a temporary situation, as I have psoriasis in my armpit that I can't shave, and the meds for it are bad for baby. Having pit hair doesn't bug me really, but in Texas I'd like to wear sleeveless clothes without making people grossed out at restaurants.
  • Some people care, some don't.  Some are uptight and don't want others to think less of them because they aren't perfectly groomed.  I will be grooming for comfort, not for anyone else.  I don't care what the doctors or nurses think, I know they have seen it all.  But if I get the chance to groom before I deliver, I would love to.  But I doubt I will, so I will be rocking the 70's bush with you.

I'm not a ginger, but my leg hair is blonde and really fine, so you can't even tell I have it unless you feel them.

  • I loved this!!! Made me really smile. I don't really care either way what anyone does although there is a definite preoccupation with the idea (on any message boards I go on). Just wanted to say thanks for the post...and I'm rockin' it 70's style with ya :)

***But just to add: my thoughts on pubic hair would be similar to that of eyelashes. They are put their with a purpose...to protect the sensitive area which they surround in terms of catching dirt, germs, etc. and preventing it from entering. This comes from no research on my part, purely my interpretation...however in my experience as well when I did shave I had an increase in bladder infection however au natural I have never had one.

"............. "LEAVE MY DISCUSSIONS ABOUT CROTCH GROOMING ALONE!"...........Ok, no, seriously...maybe I shouldn't have said "tired" of reading about all the pube care, maybe "as detached and fascinated as a anthropologist would feel, studying a remote culture's hygiene practices" Yes, that would have been more accurate. Not judging, just......interested? I'm interested in your hair care.......ha.
  • Love it! For me, it is personal preference. It makes me feel a little cleaner and less gross to give myself a good trim (and every little bit helps at this point to make me feel less gross), but I don't really feel like it's big enough of a deal to get all worked up over not being able to reach it anymore. So rock on!

  • No bushwhacking here, either.  I would have a serious problem with DH if he preferred that I be bald like our baby girl.  I know that it's a societal thing and that most guys aren't thinking "that puss looks about 8 years old), but it still just says perv to me.

  • And I'm on bed rest, so I have little else to think about? I promise I won't care about your hairstyle after I have this baby......that being said, I can see the point about the trimming prior to delivery, in terms of stitches and what not. But I'm pretty sure ladies had babies before there was crotch shaving, but we also used to think that bathing made people sick and your soul flew out of your nose when you sneezed. Hmmm....
  • I HATE HAIR!! My waxing every 3-4 weeks has nothing to do with DH or the doctors, I have been doing it for years so I see no reason why I would stop during pregnancy. Pregnancy has only made the hair grow faster :(   I like that I feel so much cleaner afterwards.
  • How much does waxing cost? Do you make small talk with the person while they are waxing you?
  • Since I go to the same place and same girl for years, they have a brazilian maintenance price as long as you go every 4 weeks its 45.  Its anywhere from 55-65 for a brazilian if you dont go regularly. And since I have been going to the same girl for years we talk about our DH, our kids normal stuff. Its basically the same talk you and your hair dresser have, if you have a person you see regularly. Nothing awkward about it.
  • ok, i have dark hair and i think people that have dark hair are hairier in general.  if i do nothing to my bush it goes crazy and you can't see a darn thing behind it and it itches like crazy and drives me nuts.  i have been having DH trim me about every 2 weeks during pregnancy, since i have not been able to see the vag. in  a long time.  he does what he can and i blindly do the rest.  and i feel so much better afterwards.

  • Hair is disgusting. I hate having hair down there, it has nothing to do with the doctor liking what he sees. Also, I feel cleaner and fresher with the hair trimmed or waxed short. And, I can't see down there so I have to get someone to do it. (And, I don't want someone to do it FOR me at the hospital with a cheapie razor and deal with that additional discomfort after delivery).

  • Two people posting about how disgusting hair is have photos indicating they both have a head full of long hair.  Irony, table for two?

No judgement, though; it's your claptrap, do with it what you will.

  • HAHA!! Seriously???  Are you really comparing the amount of hair on our heads to a bush?!?  The OP sounded quite interested in why the ladies that shave or wax do so, so we told her are take on it.  I don't want to be able to braid my vagina like I do my hair. I mean really...I take it are more along the lines with OP and don't shave or trim anything.
  • I don't care what the DH/doctors/nurses see, but I feel more comfortable when my ladybits are trimmed. I guess I have been grooming myself down there for so long it feels weird to have grown out hair. Luckily, the electric razor I received for Christmas has a bikini trimmer attachment so I don't have to worry about cutting myself while shaving blindly.

If it's disgusting in your panties, why isn't it disgusting on your head is all I wonder.  I would think that if you are so grossed out by hair you would have a pixie cut or something.  BTW, your vagina doesn't have hair.

  • Sounds like pregnancy is really boring you lately and you need some drama in your life. You aren't getting it here so move on to a new topic :)
  • Yes, finding humor in stuff on the internet is very dramatic.
