Bottle to sippy

Did anybody else have problems switching from a bottle to a sippy? My son can easily drink out of a sippy cup, but gulps and spits everything out after like its a game.  When he drinks out of a bottle he never does this.  So we don't put milk in the sippy cup, just water.  Did anybody else's LO do this? I know we need to just deal with it and put milk in the sippy, but we'll be wasting a lot of milk Sad

Re: Bottle to sippy

  • What type of sippy cup are you using?

  • ds would drink juice out of a sippy with no problem. but when it came to milk, it refused.  we tried about 10 different sippys, then after trying for many months it clicked with him, and then he didnt have any problems.  it took him till he was around 15-16 months old to get it.

  • I've tried so many different types of sippy's.  Even ones with straws! He does it with all of them.  I guess we'll just keep trying!
  • My DD isn't catching on to the whole sippy cup thing very well. She gets the idea of holding it, but she doesn't tip it back enough to get any of the liquid out. I've tried several different kinds of cups - mostly ones with the soft silicone spout. Right now we only put water in them, but maybe I should try some formula too. I'm hoping that it will click with her soon!

  • So has he been drinking out of a sippy ok and is just starting to do this?  Or he's always done this?

Noah went through this phase where he did the same exact thing.  He knows how to use a sippy, but he was fascinated with watching the water fall out of his mouth.  Then we would race over to grab his cup and start cleaning him up and the carpet.  So he quickly learned that it was a great way to grab our attention.  No surprising, this little "trick" came back after the baby was born.

I wouldnt worry, Lucas just got it one day after like 4 months!  LOL

Op, I got nothing :)  sorry  I just wanted to say that Lucas doesnt drink as much milk out of his sippy as he does his bottle.  He will drink water out of it all day long, ill have to refill it like 3-4 times but milk he could care less for out of the sippy.  He doesnt spit it out though.

Brendan did the same "trick" and still does it sometimes.

He'll get the hang of it. He didn't start drinking milk out of the sippy cup until we cut the bottle out.  He still tips his straw sippy cups up sometimes and makes a mess.  No worries
