February 2011 Moms

Birth Story for Mackenzie...sorry a little late!

So on Feb 8th we were suppose to go in at 4am for an induction (I am very pietete and my doc didnt want me to go past my due date which was Feb 12th) and got a call at 3am that they had 6 emergency c-sections that night along with 2 other first time moms in labor. So we had to sit around all day b/c they didn?t have enough nurses. Finally we got a call to come in at 4pm. Woohoo! Lol The doc said I probably wouldn?t have Mackenzie until early in the morning like 6-7am. So by the time we got paperwork done and an IV in it was 5:30pm.

I was 3 cm and 100 effaced when we walked in. The doc broke my water and started me on the pitocin and bumped it up every 15 minutes, after 20 minutes I started feeling contractions I finally asked for an epi around 8pm. That is a whole another story. We had a jack ass anthologist. It took well over an hour to get an epi in me.(I do have scolosis which made it harder for him).  But my orginal epi person was in the morning so she was gone by the time we actually could go to the hospital.  But this jackass was too stubborn to have my orginal come in (and she totally would have b/c she knew my situation).  So all in all this guy stuck me 6 times trying to get the epi in!!!! My DH was a savor while he was trying to get the epi in. I was in so much pain and was having the worst contractions.  Plus my back gets very stiff if I stay in one postion for a long period of time.  While I was getting the epi I was having the worst contractions ever! My DH walked me thru it and eased me. I think I almost broke his hands between the contractions and all the sticking. Lol.

After the epi was in my doc was going to check me and stick a heart monitoring thing on her head b/c the band around my belly wasn?t staying put. He went in to check me and was like ?never mind we are going to have this baby within the hour!? I was at 9 cm. I went from 3 to 9cm in that hour whilte I was getting the epi!!! That was at 9:30pm we had everyone come in who was in the waiting room to say hi before we started pushing. I started pushing at 10:30pm. She kinda got stuck towards the end and her heart rate started dropping. So the doc used a vacuum to give her the final push she needed. We had her at 11:01pm =) so really it was only like 5 ? hrs of labor. We brought all these movies to watch and of course didn?t get to watch them with the doc.  So it was an fast and easy delivery (minus the epi situation) so we couldn?t be more thankful. She was 6lbs 13oz and 19.5 inches long. She took to breastfeeding right away and thank god I am producing (it was one of my fears).

So for a first time mom I had a hospital record of having a baby in a 5 1/2 hr time span lol.  I couldnt be more thankful and we have a wonderful beautiful daughter! We couldnt be happier!
