I am team green, so obviously I'm buying everything gender neutral, but I think it's such a waste of money to buy a pink car seat, pink stoller, pink blankets, pink towels and washcloths, all pink clothes ect., and when another baby comes, you are back to square one with nothing blue, but it's just MHO. Lord knows I waste money on all kinds of things that I don't need, but baby things are a different story.

We picked out mostly green colored items. Our car seat is green and gray, the stroller is green with a little blue, the high chair is green and tan, the pack 'n play is green, etc. I did the nursery gender neutral as well because I didn't want to have to re-do things if our next baby was a different sex, which as it turned out, we had a boy and then a girl.

Defintely. I never understand why couples who want more than one child register for pink strollers, PNP's, carseats, etc. Even a lot of our blankets, Boppy covers, etc were neutral. Of course, by the time DD got here, there was PLENTY of pink to be seen.

We did - lots of browns, greys, and tans around here. And a red stroller.
I figure we will save all gender-specific things for smaller items. And perhaps the second convertible seat will be girlie if this next one is a girl as it will be our last!

As a first time mom, I am going to try and get gender neutral colors for some of the bigger ticket items (stroller, carseat, etc) because we definitely plan on having more kids and it just makes more sense in case our next kid is the opposite sex .
Actually, that is a really good idea. I honestly didnt think about that lol! I was just ready to deck out for whatever gender it is. I may start considering to do a few gender neutral things now. Thanks.
We are 50/50 on having baby number 2, but I figure as much pink clothing as I will have my daughter in, we should buy the big stuff in neutral to keep from being too ridiculous!!
I got gender-neutrals for things I predicted reusing (car seat, stroller, pack and play, etc.) for a second child. However, I wanted to enjoy the experience of having a girl too -- so like PP said, I bought girlie things for the smaller items that I didn't plan on reusing

This! We did lots of tan, black, lime green and red. A little different, definitely gender neutral. Blue definitely isn't my thing anyways and I can trade out the red for pink no problem if I want to.

This. And sure enough, #1 boy and #2 girl. The carseat and strollers are grey and red, respectively. Also, I got a good bit of gender neutral onesies and clothes for 0-6 with DS so we can easily reuse a lot of the cute stuff we had with him without creating confusion in family and strangers who rely on clothing cues. Tiny infants look really sweet in white, yellows and greens and you can add whatever gendered things you want to to mix it up.
I agree w/ everyone else (we bought green/gray for the big-ticket items) and especially on the mom who bought a red stroller. I bought a beige one and it's SO BORING for something you look at and use for possibly long periods every day for years. Red or Orange or some funky pattern would be my choice if I were starting over. Instead I just splurged on a colored sun shade
Yes! We chose a turquoise & gray carseat but honestly I like turquoise for either gender so works for us! Highchair green & brown, stroller black /etc.
Yes, we are buying/registering for all large/expensive items in gender neutral colors in hopes that we will have another baby that could be adifferent gender than this one.
Our PnP is in brown and tan shades, car seat and strollers are red, etc. Not that a baby will care about gender-specific colours, but the comments if you are pushing your baby boy around in a pink stroller will probably get old fast.
We're getting all the big stuff and nursery in gender neutral so I can use it for future children. I'm going to try to do as much gender neutral as possible, especially if we're having a girl, I can't handle pink. I really don't want my baby to look like bubblegum wrapped in cotton candy.

This is one of the reasons why I'm not finding out what I'm having!! You can still get all of the little cutesy stuff later to accent your neutral colors...and, just because you have something green doesn't mean EVERYTHING has to be green...there's yellow, turquoise, multicolored...Believe, me I'm not a fan of JUST green, esp. dark green...
I just got the paint for my nursery tonight. We have real light green, real light yellow, real light peach, and real light blue for the walls if it's a girl I'm getting crib bedding that's green & pink & if it's a boy I'll get green & blue.

I agree with this.. I haven't found out what we're having yet but we do plan to, but I've already bought some yellow items, some stuff with little yellow ducks, etc that I found at good prices. even though it's my FAVORITE color I still associate green as a "boy" color. Target has a lot of great gender neutral stuff. We are buying mostly neutral things/ registering for mostly neutral things, but we do only plan to have one child.. we just thought it would be nice & easier to sell what we wanted to & donate some other things to a local women/children shelter once we're done with it.

I wouldn't have picked any gender specific gear. Sure, it's easier to use a "boy" car seat for a girl. Not so much the other way around. We can now use everything again, whether it's another boy or a girl.
Definitely! That's what we're doing. If you have a different gender next time, then you will have to re-purchase all of your big items that you should already have. Typically, second time showers are looked at as "sprinkles" or times to get smaller items. That is, if they are even considered socially acceptable in your circle. In mine they're fine, but registering for big items the second time around is looked as tacky.
Unless money is just not an issue for you, then I would highly recommend going neutral for bigger items (car seat, PnP, bassinet, swing, etc).
I completely agree. We have a huge family so buying things that are gender-neutral is big for us because we're big into hand-me downs. My sister just had a baby 8 months ago and bought everything pink. Now she won't be able to re-use those big items if she has a boy later on. I won't be able to use it either if I have a boy. it'll just sit in her attic. I don't even want to know the gender of our baby so that I am forced to buy the large items gender neutral. Everyone brings gender specific gifts once the baby is born.
I'm wondering if I should be looking at gender neutral colors for items like car seats, etc. so it could work if we have a 2nd of another gender.
I am totally going for the browns and grays and blacks to try to keep big items reusable if we have another one of opposite sex. All the clothes and stuff though to me are ok to be pink or purple. It seems like clothes are a lot easier to buy over than say a crib or car seat.

yes - it's much more economical to buy as much gender-neutral stuff as possible. whenever there's a color choice, i always buy the gender-neutral option. friends and family often buy the girl-colored thing for dd, so there's plenty of pink and purple stuff around here, but whatever i purchase is suitable for a baby of either sex.
