  • I used an ergo organic with DS but sold it as soon as I found the beco gemini. I was so excited for the ergo but DS never liked it b/c he couldn't face out. I chose the beco gemini and not the butterfly b/c the gemini can covert from front facing in, to front facing out, to backpack, to hip carry. Butterfly and ergo cant do the front facing-out position. I know the "crotch dangle" isn't the best position for baby but beco says they use a wider base for this position so baby has more support and less issues for the back. In terms of fit for me--the beco is more petite than the ergo and just fit me waaay better (I'm 5'4ish 115lbs). I love that you can cross the straps in the back, it feels much more secure than the ergo did with backpack style straps. I've started baby wearing again for the first time in forever and even though DS is 25lbs now and I'm prego, it's still more comfy than it was when he was 10lbs!... I'm team beco gemini all the way!

Other things-The beco comes in much cuter patterns than the ergo...

  • I also have the beco gemini- I found it to be very easy to learn to put on and crossing the straps makes me feel very secure.  The fabric is soft and I like the pattern ("paige") and I like how it can be worn for several carries.  I tried an organic ergo and I thought it was complicated to put on and the fabric was rough, plus you need an infant insert for small babies, whereas the beco has a fold up/down part for small babies, so no extra things to buy.

  • I also am Team Beco Gemini. We have it in the Paige pattern, and it is soft, & DD is super cozy in it. Beyond easy to put on and use when you are alone. I have worn it for hours and never felt any discomfort in my back. Also, DD loves the forward facing position which the Butterfly and Ergo do not offer. HTH! =)

  • We have a Catbird Piccolo -- I have never seen anyone else post about this specific carrier!  We didn't get it til my son was older, so didn't use it in the newborn period.  I chose it, though, because of the ease of a forward-facing out carry.  At the time (Luke was maybe 6-7 mon) it was how he wanted to be carried so he could see OUT.  We still use it that way -- he weighs 27lbs and it's still comfortable.  Can also do hip and back carries.  Anyway, been very pleased with it and would definitely recommend it!

  • I returned the Pikkolo for the Gemini and it is so much better. The fabric on the Pikkolo was too rigid and uncomfortable for me and baby. I love the Gemini! So soft and easy to use!
  • i havent tried any of the others on, but I own the Ergo Sport (and was previously an owner of the original Ergo, but the sport one is much better). I really like the adjustability of the straps and how easy it is to adjust with baby already in the carrier. But, it gets really, really hot! Especially when LO is very little and you need the infant insert. But I guess the insert is only for the first few months. Washes easily in the machine, and looks gender neutral, so my husband is willing to wear it as well. Overall a good product, but perhaps a bit expensive. But I would still buy it again and do recommend it.
  • Cannot thank you gals enough for the awesome feedback!  You all have pointed out aspects that I've needed to consider and being 5'2" it sounds as though the gemini is a winner -- I also love the fact that the straps can criss cross.  Thanks again!!

  • I'm glad that you posted this, I was debating between the Beco Gemini or Butterfly and the Ergo.  I think I'm definitely leaning towards a Beco though.

I found this comparison chart that was helpful too:

  • I'm glad too!  The feedback is great - I have been so confused by all of them and they aren't inexpensive so wanted to get the right one. :)  Thanks for the comparison chart - love it!

  • I don't have any of these yet, but there is a website, PAXBaby.com, that will let you rent them and try them out for, IMO a very reasonable price.  (Like $15 or so?)  You get to try them for two weeks.  I'm going to try the Beco Gemini and the Olives and Applesauce when my LO is born.
