Is anyone else scared to take DD/DS out in public? My DD was born at 32 weeks. Her EDD is March 14. She may need to start daycare when I go back to work(mid April) and I'm terrified. I just want to protect her as long as I can.
Are you going out with your DD/DS? How long should I wait? Do you think that I'm being overprotective?

Re: Scared to go out
My baby is 4 1/2 months old and I just starting taking him out about a month ago. He was full term but had major problems and was really sick at birth. People make fun of me about how overprotective I am but they dont have a clue what its like to see thier baby hooked up to all those tubes and wires (and I hope they never have to). It is traumatizing. I know I am overboard but whatever.
I still make people wash thier hands as soon as they set foot in my house.
I know we cant shelter them forever but I think that if you can avoid large crowded germy places its probably not a bad idea.
Day care is scary. Luckily, I have someone come to the house to watch him but I dont know how long that can last so I, too, am nervous about day care.
Good Luck - I am sure this is normal for NICU moms.
My daughter was born at 35 weeks, but was the size of a 33 weeker due to IUGR. Her NICU nurses and regular pediatrician told us to keep her away from public places until she is at least 8 weeks old - no visitors, no shopping, nothing. We did as we were told.
I went back to work when she was 10 weeks old and within her 1st week of daycare she had a cold. She was given the RSV vaccines her first winter and it helped keep her safe.
I'm the same way. My son was born at 29 weeks. We do take him out to dr's appts, and to the babysitter (he's the only child there since my aunt keeps him). I returned to work when he was 4 months old actual, since staying at home wasn't an option. Even on lockdown he still got the flu in January and had to be put in the hospital for 4 days. It wasn't bad, but I hate that it happened. My 3 year old had it and he attends preschool. Our pedi has told us to avoid large crowds until cold & flu season are over and we plan on doing just that.
He has been with me to the pharmacy and a few other trips, but that was only because I had to go and didn't have anyone to watch him. We had no problems.
Just be diligent about washing your hands, and keeping areas at home disinfected. I wipe down pretty much everything nightly and keep Lysol handy.
Exactly this for us. LO is 15 months actual and he's yet to go to a store, church, ... any indoor public place, and we still only have grandparents over to our house (when they are healthy). We're hoping that he's healthy enough to start going out after this RSV season.
