Wackiest Labor Inducing Wive's Tales

Ok ladies - since we're all almost to the light at the end of the tunnel, I've got to ask:

What is the wackiest thing you've heard that is supposed to help you induce labor?

  • My husband keeps suggesting I do manual labor.

  • I have heard eating pineapple, doing wall sits, hot bath, sex, nipple stimulation, going for walks.

  • I've heard eating spicy foods as well, BUT I also read that with spicy food's, it can also make labor more painful as it counteracts with an enzyme that's supposed to act as a natural pain killer in the body.

  • Galloping.

I peed myself the first time I saw it as a possibility. I laugh about it at least twice a day at this point. Every time I see these posts, 'galloping' is the first thing that pops into my head, and I laugh so hard I think she might fall out. Maybe that's why the person who originally added  it to the 'list' did so? Lol

  • A financial advisor just told me that eggplant is the ticket. He said there's a restaurant in Texas with an eggplant dish that will give you your money back if you don't go into labor within 24 hours of eating it. And this guy gives advice for a living!

Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • Somebody told me she purposely tried to dehydrate herself to bring on labor.  That can't be good for mom or baby!

  • My step-grandmother told me that she drank castro oil when she was pregnant. If thats not the strangest thing anyone has heard

  • My grandmother told me Castor oil too.  She also told me do NOT try it.  It induces explosive diarrhea, which then stimulates your uterus to contract.  She said it was miserable!  My mom even remembers that 'episode' even though she was 5!
