Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 10.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? They've both been practicing free standing - it still only lasts for a second or two before they fall down or grab onto something again, but it's getting longer and longer.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? March 14 to get their tongue ties snipped. Is it weird that I'm excited about this?!

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Teething...at least, I think it is? I don't see any likely looking places on their gums, but Dash has been chewing on EVERYTHING so I think he's working on cutting a tooth, and the poor little man has been incredibly cranky.

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG? Honestly...I didn't enjoy being pregnant. Not at all. It was highly uncomfortable at best and excruciatingly painful at worst. I guess I did enjoy feeling them kick and move around, but that's about it.

Every once in a while, I think I'd like to have another baby just so I could experience a (relatively) pleasant pregnancy. I know it could be awful (I might have extreme morning sickness or end up on bedrest, etc.) but it's more likely that it would be better than the twins. I'd like to experience what that's like - to actually get to enjoy a pregnancy.

And I wonder what just having one baby to take care of would be like. I was watching a documentary the other day, and one of the people was a nursing mother. At one point while BFing, she stood up and walked across the room and I was like, "OMG!!! You can move while you're BFing??? That looks so free and easy!" With twins you have to sit on a couch or a bed with your boobs propped up on a pillow 'table' - not discrete and certainly not able to move from side to side, let alone get up and walk across the room. Of course BFing one baby can still be difficult, but it just looked comparatively simple (appearances can be deceiving, I know).

Anyway, I know I've gone off on a tangent here...suffice it to say that I think all of this and then I remember that I REALLY don't want another baby and scrap that plan ASAP! Stick out tongue

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?) That I enjoy it. Stick out tongue I know that sounds stupid, but for most of my life, I did NOT want children. When I realized that I actually did, I put it off for a while because I was nervous that I'd be a bad mother and not like my own children (which sounds silly until you consider the strength of my dislike for other kids). Finding that I did love AND like my children, that I find them endlessly fascinating and amusing, was quite a relief!

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it? I took one (an all-day class) at the hospital and...meh. I think it would have been better if we had a better instructor. The one we had was SO anti-pain relief that it was ridiculous. To hear her tell it, if you had any form of meds, you'd end up strapped down to a table having a c-section while your limp baby was ripped out of your body. Epidurals were like the devil, no joke. Ironically, I discovered later that although she preaches the virtues of med-free birth, she's took every pain medication available during 2 of her 3 labors and had an elective c-section for the third. Hmm.

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear? Our stroller (Baby Jogger City Mini Double). It wasn't cheap, and researched and debated a LOT before choosing it. But I think to myself how glad I am that we spent the money every.single.time I use it. It's THAT good, especially considering how unwieldy/bulky most double strollers are.

  • 1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  35w3d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Certainly feeling the normal pregnancy ailments now and I don't like it one bit.  I know it got be worse so I just need to suck it up!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  I start my weekly appointments now so I go on Tuesday (GBS test).  Also on Tuesday I need to get a measurment u/s as my doctor thinks this little guy is measuring big so we will see.  I am looking forward to seeing him again, I haven't seen LO since 30 weeks at my last cervical length u/s :)

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  Trying to get comfortable with anything I do.  I can't sit, stand, sleep w/out something hurting ;)

Also, I'm trying to prepare mentally to give birth.  I'm really scared that something  bad will happen during or after the fact.  I had a friend who's sister had a stroke after giving birth and a couple other friends who had some really scary moments during labor and it's starting to freak me out!  I can't help but wonder if the same thing is going to happen to me.  I know I can't think that way, but my anxiety is now kicking into overdrive :(

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG?  I love trying to figure out what he is doing in there when he moves around.  It feels like he is starting to push out of my stomach so I always feel little feet poking near my ribcage.  I love it!

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?)  I'm surprised/amazed that my body can actually do this!  I have always been scared to have kids because I could never wrap my head around my body being capable of this and now knowing my body can is really such a trip to me.

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it?  We took a birthing class and I really thought it was a waste of my time.  The only thing great I got out of it was the hospital tour.  Otherwise, it just goes over what the books tell you or what you see on TV or what I can pull up on You Tube or something.  I don't know, IMO it was a waste and the seats they had us sit in for 3 hours at a time were brutal!!!!  We actually bailed on the last two classes of the course because we didn't want to go back.

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear?  So far our BOB Ironman.  It's so light and pretty, but I'm afraid I should have purchased the Revolution because of the front wheel.  I'm starting to think I won't be able to use it all the time like I thought I would.

  • (1) how old is your LO? 15months+

    (2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? this morning he decided he wanted to lay his head on my chest, but I was laying on my side. So he pushed my shoulder over and my face so I would lay on my back, lol

    (3) Next appointment date? 18 month checkup

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? napping is starting to be a problem.

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG? I miss the kicking, that was the best!  I don't miss the heartburn, difficulty putting on my socks/shoes.  I miss the easy on/off maternity pants! :)

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?)  just how much i love the little guy and how what you think you will do in certain situations is now completely different

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it? I took the ones offered through my OB and I think I got some good insight about the specific hospital and doctors?

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear? that has changed over time.  the high chair is the best thing now!  It had been the stroller, the carrier, mobile, activity mat, bumbo, swing, jumperoo, exersaucer, the diaper bag, etc at different times LOL

  • 1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?  32w2d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm starting to slow down a bit, and I'm noticing more back pain. Otherwise, I'm doing well.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?  My next appointment is tomorrow. I have an US in a week.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I've been feeling anxious about how unprepared I am for this baby. I still have a million things to do before he gets here, and I'm running out of time.

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG?  My favorite thing is lying in bed at night and just concentrating on little one moving around inside me. It's amazing, especially now that I can actually feel his limbs through my skin. I also love that I don't have to suck it in anymore. :)

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?)  I thought I would hate being pregnant, and I've actually enjoyed it for the most part.

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it?  I'm pretty comfortable with what goes on during labor, since I'm around it for my job. I was going to take a shorter class for DH, because I know it's going to be a complete shock for him. Unfortunately, his schedule didn't work with the class schedule, so no birthing class for us. I fully expect him to pass out or almost pass out at least once during the birthing process.

BAHAHAHAHA! OK I have to admit, this was one good thing about being pregnant. Stick out tongue

I can't even imagine a twin pregnancy. I'm doing fine with one little dude inside, but I'd be a grouchy mess if I had to haul around two all the time. Is it bad that I think about you when I'm getting a little freaked out about parenting? I think if you can manage with two babies, I can manage with one. After all, there are two of us and only one of him.

    It's definitely challenging. Smile

I could cope with most parts of the pregnancy (the gestational diabetes, only able to walk at a glacial pace, the PUPPS etc.) without an issue...the worst part was the constant pain after about 4 months. It's not just your stomach and back, but everywhere - I used to have what I called "donkey crotch." It felt like a donkey had kicked me in the crotch, and it lasted 24/7 for months. It was just the internal pressure on my cervix, but it was insanely painful. During labor, getting internal checks was hands down the most agonizing part just because getting poked from the opposite side felt like I was being stabbed.

Post-birth, it's a lot easier when both of us are around so we can each grab a boy (especially now that they're so mobile!). Ben has gone on a couple of work trips, and that's been quite difficult, especially at bath time when they're often fussy anyway because it's almost bedtime.

I'm actually glad they're our first kids, partly because I only ever wanted two, but also because in a way we don't know any different - I'm sure this is hard, but since I don't have experience caring for just one baby, I can't really compare it and say just how much harder it is. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I'm glad if thinking of me helps! We are lucky that we have two very easygoing babies (not high demand, and never had any colic issues or anything like that), but it can still definitely be challenging lol!

    Definitely makes sense.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 9th week / 18 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I feel great, no morning sickness and we had our ultrasound today and all looks good:-) Ashton had to get a CBC done today and he was not  a happy camper.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Tuesday is my first appointment.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?  Ashton biting the other kids in daycare..sigh.

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG?

I loved every second of being pg. I did have my ailments but for the most part I enjoyed it. I just hope this one is as easy.

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?)  How your life really changes...no more dropping things to get drinks with your friends, lack of sleep and just the feeling that you are a mom..it's amazing.

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it? Yes and yes

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear?  It was the swing for sure.

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 4 months next week!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling okay.  Naps are still challenging.  Today, he was up from 7am to 11:30am (save a 5 min nap at 10, hah), then melted down and slept for almost 3 hours.  I'm really trying to just go with it, but it drives me insane.  Otherwise, nothing new.  Still working on rolling over!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Wed for high risk infant follow-up, next Friday for 4 month appt

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Naps

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG? I loved feeling him move, and being able to identify different parts of his body.  I sang to him in the car every day on my way to/from work - it just occurred to me that I miss that!  I don't miss having to pee all the time, haha.  Overall though, I loved being PG.  I even suggested to MH that we consider having 3 kids instead of 2, hah.  ...after all the complications we've had post-delivery, now I'm not so sure.  I'm a little worried even about #2, sigh. Sad

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?) Hrm.  This was my question, and I'm not sure!  ...I guess I didn't expect things to be so unpredictable from day to day, even when given the same inputs.  He's changing all the time!  For example, if I feed E at x time, then put him to bed, he may sleep for 3 hours, or he may sleep for 7.  Again, drives me crazy.  Stick out tongue  Also, I didn't expect the answer to *every* question to be "it depends [on the kid]" Stick out tongue

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it? Yup and yup.  Mostly for MH to see what it was like, but I also learned a lot of pain management techniques and that helped me feel a lot more prepared and confident that I could do it [labor].

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear?  I don't know that I have a favorite...maybe our car seat.  Stick out tongue  I just love how easy it is to use!  And I appreciate it even more after having used a different car seat for 10 days while out of town.  But I've also loved the moby, the yoga ball, the snap n go, the activity mat, ...

Thanks and no, I was trying to be sneaky while letting you ladies know. I am still not telling the world (ie facebook etc.) until we're a little further:-)

  • (1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 7.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? We had our first real illness (besides a little cold) this week.  Henry has bronchiolitis, which is a form of RSV.  A few other kids in his daycare have it, too.  He also has ear infections in both ears, which I guess is a common complication of this.  It's been a long week, mostly with me rocking him while he sleeps and/or fusses, with breathing treatments every 4 hours (which he hates, so I dread, too).  I can't complain, though, as we've managed to avoid the hospital.  It was really scary at first.....his breathing was labored and he was wheezing/honking/whistling with each breath.  MH had off on Tuesday, so he stayed home that day, but I've had to take the rest of the week of.  We got back to the pedi later this morning for a verdict of how the treatments are going.  I think he's much better, though.  His breathing is calmer and quieter, even if it's still a little crackly.  Plus, he was smiling at daddy last night (hadn't smiled in couple of days), and I even made him giggle while tickling him earlier this morning.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Today for sick visit follow-up.

    (4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Illness  :(

    (5) What do you love most, hate most (or miss most, miss least) about being PG? I'm with Kellie, I loved embracing my body whole pregnant and having an excuse to show off my belly, rather than hide it!  Overall, I liked being pregnant, except the weird symptoms I had.  I got severe hives (even on the balls of my feet!) in the 1st tri, and laryngitis for almost the whole 3rd tri.  Both were attributed to hormonal changes due to pregnancy.  They weren't unheard-of symptoms, but uncommon.

    (6) What is the biggest surprise you've found about being PG/being a mom?  (ie, what's most different from what you expected or imagined?) Hmmmm......  I guess maybe how inadequate I feel?  That sounds terrible, but it's true.  I guess I always thought that since I grew up around a lot of babies and babysat a lot that I knew ho to take care of babies.  And I do.  But I never realized the constant guilt that you feel as a mother, rather than just a caregiver.  Even when things are going well, I feel like I'm never giving him enough.  Maybe this is just how I'm feeling this week, due to him being sick.  No matter how many snuggles I give him, even if I hold him all day, I still can't take his pain away, so I still end up feeling inadequate.  Welcome to motherhood, I guess, right??

    (7) Did you take birthing classes and did you think they were worth it? Yes.  Sort of worth it but not for the reason one might think.  I joked with MH as we were heading to the first session that my real goal in taking the class was to meet another couple in out area (our friends all live far away) to be friends with.  And we did!  But the class itself.....yeah, didn't get anything out of it.

    (8) What's your favorite piece of baby gear?  I absolutely love our stroller, the UppaBaby Vista.  Sooo worth the cost!
