Unpopular Opinion

If you post a popular opinion you will be reported for your shenanigans and subject to group shunning.

My UO is that I think moms are weird if they are still talking about their birth experience a year later.  I see threads about who was in the labor room, who had a c section, who went natural and I think it's a year later, we have toddlers, does anyone still give a shiit?

Re: Unpopular Opinion

  • Well I'm getting a little nostalgic coming up on the first birthday. I almost watched my video the other night...oops. prolly shouldn't have admitted to having a birth video....
  • Loading the player...
  • The "OMG my kid won't take a sippy!" posts are absurd.  I think everyone who wants to get rid of the bottle but is unwilling to do it cold turkey is WEAK!  There, I said it.

I'm not saying it's bad to keep a bottle past one year, but if you want to get rid of it, throw the damn things away and deal with the protesting for a few days.

Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless

  • My UO: I don't like when parent give their kids kisses on the mouth. It just seems weird to me. I know a lot of people do it, but i just can't imagine doing it.

Edit: I should add for older kids. I was watching a show at the gym, yesterday and a mother gave her 16 year old daughter a kiss on the lips, i though it was weird.

My UO - I dislike the big first birthday hats. I think they make the poor babies look weird.

My UO: I like Chinese food better than "American" food. Since American food just changes up every other ethnic food, nothing is original as far as I know. Maybe peanut butter and jelly. And I don't want Americanized Chinese food. I want that shiit to be authentic. Like, plant me in a hole in the wall restaurant and feed me somethin' funky!

Also, unrelated to UO, I just noticed my kid has cheerios stuck to his forehead. Made me laugh...

  • Oh and I found out my other opinion was unpopular too.  I don't think being a mom is the most important thing I will do and even my husband was shocked.  He saw the slate article and commented to me and I said I agreed with Mew.  he was floored! Oh and I neglected to mention that I spent the whole day debating it on a mommy forum.

ITA.  I live one town away from Flushing and have access to all kinds of great Chinese food, including restaurants that specialize in specific types of Chinese cuisine (Taiwanese, Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghaiese, Hunan, etc.)  Plus, my in-laws make homestyle Taiwanese food, too.  I've been very spoiled.

  • I still talk about my birth experience, but it was horrible.  Weird?  Probably.  If it bothers me that much still, I should probably find someone to talk to about it so that I can move on.

My UO: I can't STAND Jillian Michaels.  Her 30 day shred is annoying and the reps are uneven.  You need symmetry if you are doing strength training and it gets on my nerves.  Also, her kettlebell workout is ridiculous.  The weight is too light and her form blows.  And what's up with the diet pills that she is peddling?  I think that most sensible people know that a pill is not the answer to long-term weight loss.  Grrr...

It annoys the hell out of me that she is making $$$ to put her name on a bunch of garbage.

I also wish that I were Chinese because then I'd have this super fast metabolism and pretty, shiny black hair. And I'd likely not get stretch marks, and my body would bounce back after having a baby. You will NOT find an overweight person on my in-laws side. Yay, whitey!! I hope my kid does not have my genes in those regards!! Also, I just discovered Chinese grapefruit yesterday. OMG... I have no idea grapefruit could be the size of my head, literally.

  • I have another UO, and I'll probably get reported for shenanigans because I don't think it is all that unpopular. But I could be wrong.

I think germaphobic parents are completely obnoxious. My father became this MONSTER when my youngest brother was born, likely due to my germaphobe stepmom. I guess my little brother is special, and should be kept from germs more than the first three daughters. We're tough enough. They are both annoying. My brother is NOT going to die because he ate a cheerio off the floor as a baby, or because his friend at school decided they should share a lollipop. He does not need to strictly drink bottled/filtered water. Tap water will do just fine. I'm about to make the kid eat dirt!! He's the pickiest boy ever, thanks to their parenting. Not to mention a little weird....

I do love him though. :)

Are they Cantonese by any chance?  Cantonese food is notorious for using exotic ingredients (cold jellyfish anyone?) and every single type of animal and all parts of the animal as well, including the feet and eyeballs.  It sometimes skeeves me out, to be honest.  One of my Cantonese friends said that they eat "anything with legs except a table and anything with wings except an airplane".

    Yes, they're from Hong Kong.

I've had sea cucumber, abalone, shark fin soup (I thought that was EDIBLE, but not tasty), and a bunch of other foods I can't think of now.  Also gone with them for dim sum, and I don't get why people like that either.

  • My UO is that I think one of the worst (and laziest) things a human being can do is not recycle. In Wisconsin we are required to recycle... I don't know if it is the whole state or just where I live, but we have to. Some states don't require it and I think that is a complete travesty. I think even though you are not 'required' to recycle you still should out of the goodness of your heart. Think about the world we are leaving for our children to live in... not to mention the habits we are teaching them. I totally judge people who do not make every attempt to recycle every item that has the possibility of being recycled and I also judge people who don't buy recycled products.

And before you say this is not a UO, ask how many people recycle and make it a lifestyle/habit. Not nearly enough IMO. If people realized how much junk went into landfills each and every day, or how much trash gets burned and is creating the pollution in the air our children have to breathe... It frustrates me to no end!

I completely agree and get so frustrated when people don't recycle!  I also don't understand why some states don't encourage more recycling.  For example, I went to Maryland years ago and they didn't recycle cans-why??

     I agree with you.

I also try not to buy so much crap or stuff that has too much packaging. This problem is bigger than just recycling. I actually will not buy eggs that are in a styrofoam carton-- no matter how much cheaper they are. Styrofoam doesn't biodegrade. I want my eggs in a paperboard caton.

My UO is that huge, themed 1st birthday parties for babies are stupid.  I'll get my kid a cake and invite a few family members over.  But no big bounce houses in the backyard, no themed decorations, and no other whiny 1 year olds crawling around my living room (like DD acutally has friends right now, anyway....).  What a mess, and DD won't remember anyhow.

1st bdays aren't really for the babies, more for the guests. Cater to your guests, ya know? If there's a crap ton of kids in your family (like there are in mine) bounce houses and themes that are fun don't seem so rediculous.

  • My UO: I hate the stick figure families on peoples vehicles. (They are EVERYWHERE where I live)

  • My UO, I don't know why people think Chik fil A is so good. I'll eat it but I'd much rather have chicken mcnuggets from McDonald's. Really the only think that is good about Chik fil A are the peppermint chocolate chip shakes at Christmas and the lemonade.
