How much weight have you gained?

So I saw an earlier post about 5-8 lbs total and now I am freaking out!  So I have not been eating very well, because the good foods don't sound good to me.  But I am in my 16th week now and I go between 11-13 lb gain because I am compulsive and weigh everyday... which I know I shouldn't do.

 HOWEVER, I only gained about 6lbs the first 12 and now have been rapidly gaining and I want to be healthy for the baby so he/she grows BUT also be able to get back to my pre-preg. 

Backstory, I was overweight when we got the BFP.  I was on weight watchers and finally dropped about 15lbs but was still about 20ish away from goal when we were VERY surprised by our little Wally.  So I am thrilled to be pregnant and wouldn't trade it at all, but I just want to make sure I am in goal.

 Anyone else want to share?  Any comments on is this normal?  I don't want to call the doctor, but some girlfriend advice/support would be awesome.  I would assume I would just get MORE hungry as time goes on and not be able to stick to 1 pound a week which I have clearly overshot already.

  • I started out this pregnancy at 165 and am currently 174 at 18wks 1day. I ONLY get weighed at the doctors and don't even own a scale. I know I would do exactly what you're doing lol. My doctor told me my weight gain was right on schedule. I wouldn't call the doctor over it, bring it up to them when you go in next. If they aren't concerned you shouldn't be either. Being overweight though, they say you shouldn't gain more than about 25lbs total. So 1lb a week would = 40lbs which would be too much for even a normal weight person.

  • I've gained 6 pounds according to my scale, 4 according to my Dr - but he didn't start measuring until 7 wks.
  • 5 lbs as of today.

  • I know what you mean about the rapid second trimester weight gain. I actually lost a pound in my first tri just from not eating much & feeling sick. From week 12-18 I have gain 6 lbs thus far, but that was as of Monday. I can only imagine what it will be by next Monday at my OB appt. I just assume that my body needs to gain this weight though for baby so it's all good. Everyone is going to gain differently. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Smile

  • I was also overweight when we got our BFP, but my weight has always been more muscle than fat. Docs are so sweet in not taking that into account. Anywho...my OB told me to not gain more than 10 pounds. At that point, I was in for my 12 week? ultrasound, and I was already up 10 pounds. I checked yesterday after 2 solid days of puking thanks to a migraine, and I'm up 8 pounds total. I think i'll be 15 weeks on Saturday. It's going to fluctuate. I really wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as it's not a crazy amount in the end. I find I can't eat a lot of the things I would normally put in my diet, chicken for one. That means I'm eating more carbs and fruits and such and finding it really hard to eat protein. Your body will do what it needs. The more you worry about it, the more you'll drive yourself crazy.

  • I haven't gained anything. I weighed 119 when we got the BFP at the doc's office. Now I'm at 117. But it's not because I'm not eating! I waitress so I'm always on my feet at work and I think that 6+ hours of walking a day is keeping some weight off.
  • I was overweight when I got my BFP.  I had been on WW and was down to a good weight.  Then we went on a cruise and I gained 10 pounds.. then we quit smoking and I gained about 10 pounds.  So yeah, I started this pregnancy about 20-25 pounds heavier than I wanted to be.  At my last doc's appt I was up 6 pounds, but I weigh myself fairly often and at home I am down 3 pounds from that appointment.  I go again next week, so i will see. 

    So 3-6 pounds .

  • I don't own a scale but at my last appointment, about 3 weeks ago, I had gained 8 lbs total.

  • 6 lbs total so far but I lost a bunch during first tri because of m/s.  My weight gain is steady but I'm afraid of it taking off now because I started off slightly overweight (about 10 lbs from goal weight) and I keep thinking of all the weight I will need to loose after baby comes.

  • With DD I gained 47lbs and I still didn't have it all off when I got pregnant this time. So I started at 147 and yesterday at the doc I was 158 so 11 lbs in almost 16 weeks. I am trying to watch what I eat but somehow just keeping gaining more than I should.  :(

  • I've gained 11 lbs. We got married 3 months before our BFP and if I go from our wedding day I've gained 16 lbs. But I'm trying not to obsess. I am obsessing though....ask anybody around me.
  • I have gained about 8 lbs, I think. My doctor said I was right on track.

  • I've only gained 3 lbs, but I am fairly positive that my weight has just redistributed (I had about 10 extra lbs. on me before getting pregnant), because I know that my boobs and belly are more than 3 lbs. bigger.

    I am actually concern about the opposite, I feel like I haven't gained enough.

  • Every time I weigh myself it is something extremely different (I was 5 lbs lighter on Friday than I was on Wednesday). And on every scale I am extremely different.  But I think I have gained about 13 pounds total so far at 17 weeks. I was at the OB yesterday and she seemed fine with the way things are going. I am working out at least 4 times a week and don't think I am eating too much more than I was pre-pregnancy (maybe more snacking, but nothing too too extreme), so I think everyone's body just reacts to the growing baby differently :)

  • 2 lbs total so far. my last pregnancy i gained slowly in the beginning and then BAM i put on 8lbs in a month so dont feel bad. i think some times you just have a bad month... or two :)

  • I have gained 2 pounds so far.  I'm freaking out about this!!  My doctor said that all of his patients should only gain between 0-5 lbs in the first 20 weeks.  I figure I'm going to need those lbs the closer to 20 weeks I get.  Sorry I can't help you out!  The only thing I've been doing is trying to get back in to working out.

    I also work with 2 girls that one just had a baby and only gained 10 lbs and then another that is 35 weeks and has only gained 17 lbs.  They make me freak out!

  • From mt BFP I have gained about 9lbs. I feel ok with this weight gain so far and my doctor seems to be ok with it as well, Im just hoping that I dont gain weight to fast towards the end.

  • 4 pounds so far, which I'm glad about because with DD I gained 80 pounds and I really don't want to do that again! I want to keep it at 30 pounds!

  • What is "normal" for you might not be the same as someone else so its sort of pointless to compare unless you're looking to feel either A) better because someone has gained more or B) worse because people have gained less.

    If you're eating well, and exercising (even moderately) then you're doing all you can.  Your baby will take what it needs, and gain what it wants.  

    Stop weighing yourself everyday (get rid of the scale) - its just causing you unnecessary stress.

  • I weighed 158 at BFP... I weigh 151 now (I'm 5'8) : 1st tri was a B!TCH.

    This is the way I feel. My doctor is happy with it though so i guess its ok. I actually haven't gained any weight at all but I was overweight to begin with. I'm more worried about the fact that I barely have a bump at all and I'm almost 18 weeks. I actually feel like my bump is shrinking... looking at my weekly pics, it is significantly smaller this week then it was two weeks ago. I"m not goign to try to go and gain weight becuase my doctor only wants me to gain 15 pounds so I guess I"m right on track but still i can't help but worry haha  

  • I also did Weight Watchers prior to my BFP and lost 40 pounds.  I know I am up a few pounds from my last weigh in there on Dec 5th (BFP was Dec 11th),  however, when I went to the doctor for my 8 week to when I went in again a day shy of 13 weeks I was only up one pound.  I thought it was going to be 5-10 at least. 

     I wouldnt stress it too much.  I would just try to get some healthier foods in and stay as active as possible.  Your are going to gain what your body needs to gain, everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.

  • 6.5lbs so far, but don't feel bad!

    With my son, I was up about 12lbs by now, and I ended up only gaining 29lbs total with him. You will gain what the baby needs. As long as you aren't overeating and try to exercise when you can, then you should be fine. No worries.

  • - haven't gained anything. I lost 11 lbs in the 1st tri and I have yet to gain any back at 17 and half weeks. I had my monthly yesterday and thought for sure I would've gained but nope! I did start out overweight though. My ob is not worried so I try not to either. Healthy food sounds horrible to me but my nutritionist said as long as I'm taking my vitamins and drinking water eating something is better then worrying about it not being healthy and not eating anything.

  • I was down 8lbs at last appt due to m/s.   I have an appointment next week. So I"ll see how much I gained.  Doctor not concerned. She stated that I will gain it all back and then some during my 2nd trimester.

  • I lost 4 lbs in the first 10 weeks and since have gained back those plus 2.  So I guess I have gained 2lbs.

  • I've fluctuated up and down since BFP, but I haven't had a net gain yet as of today.  Actually, I'm a bit worried about that, although my OB doesn't seem to be so I'm not going to stress Smile

  • I think that when weight gain questions are asked its important for everyone to reference their pre pregnancy body weight bc there is such a differencein what an ideal weight gain should be. For ex I started out at 5'4" and 105. I should ultimately gain more than someone who starts out at 160. My doc suggested I shoot for 30 lbs. I have gained about 4-5 so far at 14 weeks.
  • I was so sick my first trimester I actually have lost 13 pounds. But now that the sickness is gone I feel like I'm starving all the time, so I am sure that will change soon!

  • I haven't gained weight yet, but my doctor isn't concerned. He said its different for all women, and that I could still go on to gain 25-35 pounds. I was a healthy weight to begin with (5'5 135 pounds) and I'm eating a ton, just waiting to blow up!

  • i got pregnant a month after my wedding.. so i only know my wedding weight.. which was 150. I am 171. i was also on a no carb diet for my wedding..so i think now that im eating carbs again.. i gained a little more than i should. But my doctor keeps saying "good! you're gaining!" so im not worried. I think its all different you may gain more weight now and less at the end and others will gain it all at the end. :) but I think i gained a good 8 lbs the month after my wedding eating as much pasta as i could....

  • THe doctor told me on Monday that I had only gained 1 lb and she was ok with that. Its good she doesn't know about the 10 I gained between conception and my first appointment (wedding, 2 week honeymoon, Christmas, New Years... )

  • As of my last appt, about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I had not gained any weight.  My dr isn't concerned, this pretty much mirrors my first pregnancy.  I think I only gained 1 lb in the 1st trimester, towards the end of the 2nd tri and into the 3rd is where I gained 80-90% of my weight.  Last pregnancy, I gained a total of 30 lbs.

  • Bah! I have gained 16 pounds :/ I attribute it to 1st Tri all-day sickness. I found that if I ate all the time, my nausea would be better so I would eat all day long. I also only wanted to eat meat and dairy (2 things I wouldn't say I usually crave or eat much of). The last few weeks I have been eating more normally though so hopefully it will all balance out...
