Chicken Pox Clicky and Measles Question

So last week when DD went in with DH for her one year check up she was supposed to get the MMR and Chick Pox Vac. Well, she didn't get either bc she had a minor ear infection. Dr. told up to come back a few days later (which we haven't yet) and get her shots. So my clicky poll question: did your LO get a (mild) case of the pox after the vac? (how long did it last?)

Im afraid to go in tomorrow or later this week bc we are supposed to fly and I dont want her having chicken pox so i am trying to figure about what are the chances.

Now for my MMR question. I just saw on the news that at about 7 airports passengers were exposed to measles. None of the airports exposed are airports we will be flying to but it still scares me. Would you risk flying before getting the MMR vac? Or would you definitely get before you got on a plane Friday. Even if we did get it, Im not sure the antibodies would kick in before the flight, right?

HELP!!! Freaking out!!!

  • We have done the MMR, but not the chicken pox.

I wouldn't get the combo vaccine in this instance, as it's more likely to cause a adverse reaction. Just go get MMR- definitely the more important of the two- and deal with the varicella after your trip (or at your next appointment).

oooh, i def think thats a good idea!

  • We only got the chicken pox vac and he didnt break out, but it made his eczema a little worse and he started scratching it for the first time ever and he made some places bleed...so no breakouts of dots, but it made him a little more itchy.

  • Natalie and Olivia had the MMR and varicella vaccines on schedule and had zero reactions.

Since my kids never tend to have reactions to vaccines, I'd probably just get them.

eta:  Olivia did get the chicken pox a year later, though. But, it was so mild it was hardly noticeable!    Yay for the vaccine!

  • DD1 got both doses of the pox vaccine and didn't develop a reaction to it. She received both doses on time. However, when she was 4y3m and 5y7m, she developed a case of the chicken pox. DD2 will not be receiving the chicken pox vaccine.

  • FWIW, my pedi said to look for a few spots around the injection spot on her leg. She said sometimes a few pox pop up, but nothing more. It doesn't seem to be the same as getting a mild case of the Chicken Pox, in my opinion.
  • DS just got both yesterday, so I can't tell you yet if he'll have any reaction.

  • We did both and he had his normal reaction of crankiness.
  • Thanks for the responses ladies! I am going to call the pedi (obviously) and get his input. I am hoping we can get both shots now and still be able to fly on Friday. If not, i guess thats life and you just deal right?

To pp that commented about eczema, thank you for this note. DD has eczema and has just recently started scratching and now that you mention it I wonder if it is from her TB shot. Her creases on her ankles got SUPER dry for a few days afterward and she was trying to pull her socks off so she could itch the.

    Again ladies, thank you.
