Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Air Travel tips please! (also things to take and not to take)

I read taking boppy is a good idea (DS will be on our laps) should we? it's pretty bulky but if it will help we'll take it..

also we will be taking the travel system (not sure though if we can check both the car seat and the stroller in.. im assuming yes..)

I also read it's a good idea to have baby eat/pacifier at take off and landing..

Any other tips on things to take or not? Soo nervous.

  • Bring big ziplock bags!  DD had a huge blowout right after take off and I was so happy I brought bags for both her stinky diaper and her ruined outfit!

  • You can either check in the travel system or take it to the gate and they will tag it for you and have it waiting for you when you get off the plane. I make sure to have a bottle ready for DS for the plane ride. Do not bring water. Buy your water after you've gone through security.

  • Check with your airline about the travel system, gate checking is definitely the way to go if you can.

I would skip the boppy, it will take up way too much room on the flight.  If you're going to be gone long and you have room, shove it in your suitcase if you really want to have it with you.  For sure, nurse/feed on the way up and down to avoid the ear-popping issues.  I just always try to sit next to the window and bring a cover and it's not a problem.

Bring a little toy, soothie, book, etc. to entertain during the flight, but it's really not that bad. You can do it!

  • I was nervous too but really, it's not that bad.  I would not take the boppy.  Those seats are already so crammed and that would make it worse.  I got a Flyebaby which is like a little hammock.  That was nice so I could have my hands free and he could spread out more.

You may want to think about a cover for the carseat/stroller.  We just took the carseat and base and the handle got all scratched.  Just a thought.

Pack ONLY what you think you'll need.  Sit by the window. If baby is awake during take off/landing, give bottle/pacifier but I was told not to wake them if they are sleeping.

I also had a little problem with my breastmilk.  I had bottles premade in a cooler.  Because of the air pressure, I'm guessing, it started to leak.

That's all I can think of at the moment.  Good luck!  Don't stress.
