Ellis - like or no?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this as a middle name for James. Also, curious to hear whether you would consider it strictly a boy's name or whether or not it can/should/will be used by girls.

I think James Ellis sounds great. I don't see it as strictly a boy's name though, but it should be and I was relieved to see you were asking for a boy. I don't see it being a common girl's name either though and would be great in the MN spot.

I like James Ellis.

I could see Ellis as a girl name, but I don't think that takes away from its masculinity when used for a boy.

I think Dr Grey on Grey's Anatomy's mom is named Ellis. It was also the pen name of Emily Bronte (but she chose it specifically because it was a male name at the time).

I like James and I like Ellis but I don't like them together.

But I am picky about the name that leads into a name that starts with a vowel. Sometimes it doesn't matter but in this case I don't like how James leads into Ellis and makes Ellis sound like Zealous. Know what I mean? Obviously I don't think people would think your child's middle name is Zealous But I'm just putting it out there!

I think of Ellis Grey from Grey's Anatomy, so I view it as a female name.

I've only ever heard the name as a girls' name, although it is supposed to be a boys'. I like it though and it goes well with James.

I LOVE the combo James Ellis!

I thought you were going to ask about Ellis for a fn and I was going to say that it sounds a little feminine. I used to have it on my list but have struck it out because of that. I really like it as a mn though! Especially with James.

I like it for a boy, hate it for a girl. I think a trend lately has been to name girls Ellis or Ellison (I know one of those) and then call her Ellie. Hate.
